Brent Rooker Watch

Post by bleedspeed »

Just wanted to get something started for Rooker. I would like to see Sano stay at 3rd or be traded.

I don't get why (based on the article) I am supposed to get excited about the numbers Rooker is putting up. I'm not saying he sucks (Jester is in on him so I'm on board) but they don't look like anything to get hyped over which is what the article suggests. It's just kinda weird to me. I like the thread though. Sorry for the rant.

I was with you on the numbers. For me it was that they felt good enough to keep fast-tracking him.

Has a ton of raw power and I've just seen enough of him in person that I'm a believer. He's never gonna be a .300 hitter he's going to be one of those guys that bats .250-270 and hits 30-40 bombs. Most concerning right now is his strike out rate to walk ratio is 6:1 which is not good.

Also some May 13 he's been batting .300 with 6 bombs, so after a very slow start this year he's starting to figure things out. Got to remember this guy is older prospect at 23 so he should be ready in a year or 2 because at Jack Morris says there's no such thing as a 26 year old prospect cough cough Alex Meyer.

How is he as a fielder? Do we have anyone 3rd base prospects?

He played a lot of left field in college but he's going to be a first baseman. He splits time between the two position still in double A but I would put at 90% he plays 1b whenever he gets called up.

I am not going to start a draft thread, but we drafted Trevor Larnach who they compared favorable to Rooker for average exit velocity.

He's gotta ton of pop but he's has a big loopy swing for a lefty. Feel like he's a good gamble though for where he was picked at.

Did you see anyone drafted after him you liked? I would have preferred an arm.

Yankees got this guy at 23 that sounds interesting.

C Anthony Seigler, Cartersville HS (Georgia). Seigler is a switch-hitter and switch-thrower who has performed well against elite competition in showcase events. He knows the zone and projects as a high on-base hitter with good contact rates. Behind the plate, he's a good receiver with a strong arm, and he's a good enough athlete and runner that he's capable of playing other infield positions.

Indians drafted this kid at 29

C Noah Naylor, St. Joan of Arc HS (Ontario). Noah's older brother Josh was a first round pick in 2015, though they are different players. Josh is power-hitting first baseman. Noah is a very good athlete known more for his approach and raw hitting ability, though he can hit the ball out of the park as well. He's rough around the edges behind the plate but has the athleticism and work ethic to make it work at the position.
