I wonder if it's possible to isolate their 1st and 2nd half offensive ratings. In regard to defense, they have a number of talented individual defenders. But teams are making more and more 3's against them as they focus on protecting the paint. Again, I think Bud can't be so rigid.

That's true, their defense is designed to protect the rim first and foremost and give up the open 3 to mediocre shooters. So many teams now have multiple 3-point shooters that it's getting harder to use this strategy. There aren't many teams like the Wolves where you can count on one hand the # of competent shooters. Most now have six, seven, or eight guys that you can't leave alone out there.

Their 1st half offensive rating is 3rd best in league and 2nd half rating 2nd best only after Brooklyn. But their 1st half defensive rating is ranked 7th and 2nd half rating is ranked almost last in the whole league (28th). So it really looks like they are not getting enough stops in the end of game.

Thank you Mikkeman. I'm surprised, it seems the offense really struggles in games that are close entering the 4th quarter.

Ricky Rubio was traded for James Johnson and the 17th overall pick.

Luke Kennard was traded for Dzanan Musa and the 19th overall pick.

Dennis Schroder was traded for Danny Green and the 28th overall pick.

Seth Curry was traded for Josh Richardson and the 36th overall pick.

Enes Kanter was traded for two second round picks.

One of these draft night trades is unlike the others.

We paid the most and got the worst asset. How Wolves is that? Rubio was a horrible move even with our needs aside. Horrible.

It seems that people tend to forgot what the exact deal was. So I copied this from ESPN:

Timberwolves get: Ricky Rubio, 2020 No. 25 pick (Immanuel Quickley*), 2020 No. 28 pick (Jaden McDaniels)

Thunder get: 2020 No. 17 pick (Aleksej Pokusevski), James Johnson

* Draft rights to Quickley traded to Knicks in a separate deal

So Wolves actually gained one 1st round pick by taking back a 30 year old point guard coming from career year. Based on Kevin Pelton's draft pick value calculator, value of 25th and 28th picks together is clearly higher than 17th pick. If Wolves had actually drafted Quickley and kept him, this deal would look much better right now even though Rubio sucks.

Thanks for the history lesson, Mikkeman, as I too had forgotten the exact deal. I think your conclusion is that the deal looked like good value at the time based on Pelton's value calculator and Rubio's 2019-20 season, but looks bad with hindsight due to Rubio's unexpected ineptitude this season. I agree with that take.

Then traded Quickley and a future second to go get Bolmaro. We will see how that turns out.

Houston traded its MVP-level star player and a coveted 3-and-D savant... a year after trading an All-NBA level player... re-build, re-build, re-build?

No.

Houston just won its 6th straight game. By 30 points.

[Note: I've looked this stat up multiple times. I need to bookmark it. But I believe the Wolves have one 6-game winning streak since 2004.]

[Edit: I was wrong. The team has NOT had a 6-game winning streak since 2004.]
