It will be interesting to see how things unfold among our top three youngsters. Remember, the organization will have to make a decision on both Zach and Andrew next Fall. So one of those two will be the odd man out on the 5 years. Unfortunately, this will happen immediately after another losing lottery season. That means the odd man out is more likely to pout or simply more inclined to set his sights on playing elsewhere where he'll be more important and more likely to win.
This is why what we've seen from the Wolves so far this season is so profoundly troubling. It's not just another losing season for fans. It also imperils the organization's ability to keep the core together and continue building for the future. The good news is that Andrew, Zach and KAT all like each other. The bad news is that losing makes it much harder for players to set their egos aside on contract matters. If this team can finish really strong and finish a strong 9th in the conference, that will help. All the more reason not to make any "future-focused" deals before the trade deadline. And all the more reason not to trade Ricky if that means Dunn would be our starting PG. We need to be focused on winning as many games as possible and finishing as strong as possible.
