Draft Night Drama - GDT
Re: Draft Night Drama - GDT
Well, that a wrap. I'm happy we kept our core together for now and added a solid PG. We'll see what the rest of the offseason holds but all in all tonight was a good night for me

Well it lived up to the hype. Good stuff

Well tonight was a good night, until I looked at the news and saw that Britain is about to leave the EU. Crisis await ye all in the morn!

If we don't make any trades, I'll consider the draft a success for us. I think Dunn and Rubio can co-exist giving us two of the top defensive point guards in the league that also pass well. If Rubio stays healthy, I believe his shooting improves. Dunn can improve his shooting and I think he can quickly be a plus defender and keep our offensive in flow when Ricky sits.

Fuck Mark Stein and ESPN. They just had him talk about the trade talks for Butler and it was all MN was hunting for Butler and Chicago at the end of the day just couldn't bear to part with Butler. We're the team with assets better than Butler so if we really really wanted him we would have him. Chicago tried to be greedy and we shut them down. I hate it when BSPN spews bullshit to favor bigger markets and make us look like thirsty dogs begging for a drink.

In order for no deal to get done requires both sides to have said no, doesn't it? Obviously Chicago felt Thibs was being greedy in wanting a Top15 player on the cheap.

Only one side has to say no for a deal to not get done, but that's besides the point. The way he reported it makes it look like we were the ones responsible for a deal not getting done by not offering enough to make the Bulls bite when their counters obviously were too rich for Thib's blood to accept either. I would expect a professional report to treat it for the stalemate it was and not treating one side as almost desperate and the other side too cool to deal. We obviously weren't that desperate if Lavine was a deal breaker.

Could it be so simple as this?
Chicago:
Hey we really want Dunn
Minny:
Hey we really want Butler
Both teams offer some sort of compensation neither team agrees to it but say hey keep in touch hoping the other one decides to crack. Chicago probably never offered Butler. I bet Minny never offered Lavine. Both teams wanted a player or asset/Dunn the other team had so maybe they kept in contact. We will likely never know but I would have been either surprised and/or really disappointed if that Butler deal went through because I think we would have had to give up Lavine to make it happen and that was a deal breaker for me.

Unless one team calls the other and is flat out refused then no, both teams have to say no for a deal to die. Chicago was willing to trade Bulter for the right price, Thibs wants Butler for the right price. Chicago obviously told Thibs what it would take, Thibs told Chicago what he'd be willing to do, they both were unwilling to meet the others price. We were equally responsible for no deal getting done in that Thibs was unwilling to meet their requirements.

Taking about BSPN makes me thing about what Yahoo is doing with The Verticle. Like I heard on NPR a few weeks ago they were saying what exactly is yahoo anyway? Well Inam not exactly sure what they are trying to do with The Verticle but it's a nice direction in general. More substance less flash seeming legit reporting more and more content all the time. I'm interested to see where it goes. There is certainly a niche (maybe too small of a word actually) for something like that.
