The 76ers opened up trade conversations around Simmons, the three-time All-Star, in July, but so far their conversations have not reached the cusp of a deal. Philadelphia has conducted expansive discussions with several teams, including Minnesota and Toronto, but neither a Timberwolves package nor the Raptors' proposals have appealed to the 76ers as of yet. Philadelphia has set a high price threshold for teams to meet in talks for Simmons thus far.

So far, Simmons' situation remains the same. While the 76ers have told teams they are comfortable bringing Simmons back for the 2021-22 season, rival executives believe it's only a matter of when -- not if -- the All-Defensive team stalwart is moved.

For now, all signs continue to point to Simmons' career in Philadelphia coming to an end.

Simmons was almost moved to the Rocketsalong with Matisse Thybulle and two first-round picks in the James Hardennegotiations, but Houston traded Harden to the Brooklyn Nets. With previous trade talks coming so close to moving Simmons out of Philadelphia -- coupled with the comments of Joel Embiid and Doc Riversto end the 76ers season -- the writing appears to be on the wall.

The Timberwolves have been motivated to find a deal for Simmons but would likely require a third team given their asset pool of Malik Beasley, Jaden McDaniels and D'Angelo Russell might not entice the 76ers.

Philadelphia has its eyes set on Portland All-NBA guard Damian Lillard, sources say, but the Trail Blazers have fully focused on continuing to build around Lillard. As of now, Lillard is continuing to evaluate the Trail Blazers' present and future and is slated to begin training camp with the organization. In some ways, the 76ers are stuck between deciding whether to make a move now with Simmons -- or waiting until a star like Lillard shakes free.

Thanks for posting, Cool. That report rings true. I have no doubt that the Sixers will eventually trade Simmons. The question is whether they're willing to start the season with him and, if so, how far into the season they'd be willing to go with him. Thibodeau took Butler into the season even thought the acrimony was even worse than the discord between Simmons and the Sixers. I'm sure Morey would like to deal Simmons before the seasons begins, but he'll hold out as long as he can for the player he wants. Right now he wants Beal or Lillard, but I think he's settle for Fox. If the season starts and he hasn't been able to swing a deal for any of those three, then he'll have to recalibrate because I agree with Cam that keeping Simmons for a significant portion of the season seems untenable now.

Beal seems entirely off the table at least until next summer and maybe beyond. I think knows that and has his sights set on Lillard. I think he's waiting for Portlant to relent and put Lillard on the table. That seems like a long shot, but I could see Portland potentially putting Lillard on the table. If so, they would appropriately expect substantial additional assets along with Simmons in return. That's the hand Portland has to play if they are interested at all in moving Lillard. Morey is so intent on landing a star PG that I think he'd give Portland a nice return in addition to Simmons. I can also see the Kings eventually agreeing to swap Fox for Simmons, which I think would be a fair straight-up deal for both teams. I suspect that Morey seeks Fox as his fall back even though the Kings have thus far refused to put him on the table.

Philadelphia: Dejounte Murray, Taurean Prince, 2024 first-round pick (via Minnesota), 2026-first round pick (via Minnesota), and 2023 first-round pick swap (via Minnesota)

San Antonio: Patrick Beverley, Jaylen Nowell, 2022 first-round pick (via Minnesota), 2022 second-round pick (via Minnesota via Washington)

This could be a possibility depending on Murray's availability. He was reportedly "gettable" earlier this summer.

Minnesota: Ben Simmons

Philadelphia: Terry Rozier, Taurean Prince, 2022 first-round pick (via Minnesota), 2024 first-round pick (via Minnesota), and 2023 first-round pick swap (via Minnesota)

Charlotte: Malik Beasley, 2022 second-round pick (via Minnesota via Washington)

This is another possibility, in my opinion. The Hornets get back a productive albeit lesser shooting guard in Beasley with an extra year on his team-friendly contract for the expiring Rozier. The Sixers get a lead guard who can score off the dribble and from outside in bunches while maintaining their defensive prowess -- as well as draft picks.

These are just reasonable examples of three-team trades that land Simmons in Minnesota, though I still believe they could acquire him without needing outside help. I know that goes against the reporting. I just don't see Philadelphia gaining leverage from now through the end of October, nor do I see Damian Lillard or Bradley Beal becoming available in that timeframe.

Edit: Rozier recently signed a four-year, $97-million extension with Charlotte. The Rozier deal is not an option and makes a three-team deal even more difficult.

Rozier just signed a big time extension so that's no longer an option.

One lengthy article I read most of one of the points suggested that some teams might want to do basically a complete rebuild and that they might not want Simmons back in the deal but would prefer all the assets they can get. Maybe that team keeps Simmons to build around but is willing to deal some other vets for assets.

That article mentioned that Philly turned down a Brogdon and a 1st for Simmons which is a deal that seems to make some sense for Philly although I get they would probably want more back. Can you imagine Carlisle with a frontcourt of Simmons and 2 bigs? That could be a defensive monster especially if Myles Turner could get and stay healthy. I'm just trying to think of what other high level vet guards that could be available. Honestly I think if McCoullum could stay healthy I think he would interest the Sixers (and the league in general) a lot more.

I think there are a lot of scenarios that could benefit the Wolves that don't even include them landing Simmons.

I stand corrected. Great catch, WildWolf. I hadn't seen his four-year, $97-million extension. The Rozier deal is not an option and makes a three-team deal even more difficult.

It never was an option. Terry Rozier is a stud. Why would Charlotte even consider Beasley and a 2nd for him? That is the opposite of "reasonable"!

Obviously, it would depend on what Charlotte was comfortable with paying him and whether or not they would retain him. Clearly they were comfortable with paying him and gave him the maximum that they could. That alone renders my hypothetical trade impossible. But had Charlotte and Rozier not agreed to an extension and he was playing on his expiring deal I think my trade is something they could have explored. If you disagree, then so be it.

Keith Pompey:

Ben Simmons tells Sixers brass he no longer wants to be a Sixer and does not intend to report to training camp, according to multiple sources.

This was to be expected, in my opinion, if you've been paying attention since the Sixers playoff series loss. It being publicized is great news, though. Ben Simmons has played his last game for Philadelphia and I continue to see him getting traded before the season starts.

Again, Patrick Beverley can be aggregated starting on October 1st.

During a meeting in Los Angeles last week, Sixers star Ben Simmons told team owner Josh Harris, president of basketball operations Daryl Morey, general manager Elton Brand, and head coach Doc Rivers that he doesn't want to be part of the team any longer, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Sources tell The Inquirer that Simmons doesn't plan on reporting to training camp with the 76ers in four weeks.

According to Pompey, the Sixers' brass told Simmons they want him to come to camp and be part of the team, but the three-time All-Star - who knows he can be fined for not showing up - apparently intends to take a drastic approach in the hopes of forcing the team's hand. Money won't be a factor in Simmons' decision-making, a source tells Pompey, who notes that the 25-year-old has four years and nearly $147MM left on his contract.
