I don't understand why the NBA is requiring that Ricky to be quarantined if he tested positive back in July. I assume he was around Juancho during the time Juancho may have been infectious. I guess the NBA's logic is that once you recover from COVID, you can still get it.
I'm a little surprised DLO isn't quarantined given that he is reported to be good friends with KAT. Maybe, they aren't as good friends as we've been led to believe.
Ricky tested positive for COVID in July of last year yet he's in quarantine 6 months later

There isn't enough info out there to show if you had Covid can you still be a carrier. I was lucky enough to get the 1st shot of the Vaccine today because of my job and in 3 weeks I'll be fully vaccinated but they still don't one of I could be a carrier even if I'm vaccinated. So I still need to be careful around my dad.
That is why I'm guessing Ricky is quarantined

Yeah, the other thing I hear is that if it's been > 3 months since you were cleared from the first bout of Covid, you shouldn't assume that you can't get it again. I think that is very conservative guidance, but there just isn't definitive iron-clad evidence yet on a number of fronts.
This thing is such a bizarre illness in the sheer variability in which it affects people and all the unknowns still out there about it.

I have two sisters who both had it and their doctors said the immunity lasts longer than they first thought. Probably 6 months or greater. Different doctors, but both said the same thing.

There are multiple variants so if he got the UK or California strain he can get it again

I doubt getting Ricky back would help this team much anyway.
But on the medical/policy side, I've read cases where people were confirmed to have gotten it twice. Epidemiologists think it's probably rare but the chances of reinfection rise over time. Still, the key thing is, the scientists don't really know for sure. It's a new virus so there is still a lot they are trying to figure out.
The first time it was scientifically confirmed was last August. I think it was a guy who got the very first strain out of China (he's from Hong Kong) then I think was in Spain and got a slightly different strain, so that suggests the different strain thing may be a factor. Not sure what to make of the news that it's mutating and there are more strains out there. Seems like it can't be good, but not sure how bad it is.

Here's what the CDC says about reinfection.

Obviously, that would be much better news if it turns out that it's very rare to get reinfected and that antibody defenses that you get from an infection last a really long time (hopefully at least 6 months or more for most people like Cool mentioned).
To back up what kek said though, even if it reinfections are very rare (which is hopefully the case), scientists also still don't really know whether you can be an asymptomatic carrier and transmit it to someone else even if you've previously been infected and have antibodies. I read here that they think the likelihood is diminished, but they just don't know and are working to try to figure it out. That's why they are asking even people who have previously been infected and have antibodies, as well as people who have been vaccinated, to continue to follow social distancing, mask-wearing, and other guidelines to stop the spread until we can get this thing under control and vaccinate everybody (or at least enough to get us to herd immunity).
It sucks not to know yet, but they're working on it. It's a new thing and science takes time. I'm still impressed they came up with vaccines this quickly (previous record was something like 4 years of development for the mumps vaccine).
Think about that. Scientists can come up with a vaccine in less than a year. Maybe we should put them in charge of the effective Timberwolves rebuild we've been waiting for since about 2004.

One college student that I volunteered got Covid and she got tested for antibodies and her's were down after just a couple of weeks of being recovered. She is in nursing school and works as a CNA. One of my co-workers that had Covid around Thanksgiving had an antibody test a few days ago and her numbers were still very strong. That's just 2 examples but a pretty wide variance.
