Doogie mentioned something on Aldrich that I had not considered -- the Wolves might waive AND stretch him, Sounds painful!

Stretching him would spread the 2 mil guarantee over 3 years, thus adding another 1.2 mil or so to our cap space below the luxury tax.

Thibs is having a press availability day today. I guess they will be posting some video this afternoon. Jon tweeted the following Thibs quote about Belly, which seemed a little odd. I wonder if they are waiting to see if a trade pans out (I assume with Aldrich) for a Belly replacement, in which case no QO for Belly would be made...

Thibs on a qualifying offer for Bjelica: "Obviously you know how we feel about him. We haven't done it yet, but we feel very strongly about him."

The media availability is on Wolves.com.

The most interesting thing to me was that when Thibs mentioned the young players on the roster he said Karl Wigs and Tyus. It seems like between the reports I have read and this quote maybe Thibs might actually be prioritizing Tyus more now than before.

In a reply to someone on Twitter Jon K said that the Wolves are looking to st a 3-4 year deal done with KBD. The person on Twitter had pointed out it would likely mean they would need to use a bit of the MLE to do that because min salary deals can only be 2 years.

I get the idea of signing KBD to a long-term deal, but that's just not something you do unless you are bringing in established talent like a Pek, Belly, etc. Stick to the two year minimum. Last thing you want is to sign someone to a 4 year deal who can't play.

We can trade them Gorgui. Let Thibs keep fleecing his old buddies there.

Mcdermotts QO was pulled.

Hes the guy I think thibs will target as the vet. wing shooter we covet off the bench. Hes a strictly a spot up guy that can create space and when he plays with either butler or wiggs. He's a bad defender, but we just drafted 2 wing defenders. Maybe thats why thibs has been a little cryptic on bjellys QO.

Mcdermott on Thibs from 2015

"I talked to him after the season, and there are no hard feelings there at all. I wish him the best of luck and just trust the front office and this organization moving forward, but there was no bad blood there at all. We got along just fine, and we're both moving on. I felt like I owed him a text. It was just nice because you never want to burn bridges in the NBA, and it's such a small league. I just thought it was great that I was able to talk to him on his way out.''

The idea is you get him signed to 4 year deal and at least one of those years likely isn't guaranteed. The amount of money used from the mid-level is pretty small. Remember this is a guy that was widely considered a 1st round prospect and you can get him for dirt cheap the next 4 years? That's a gamble I think is worthwhile to make especially if the Wolves aren't planning to use the entire mid-level anyway. ITs basically doing a first round pick type contract only at a cheaper salary. The only question is if KBD would agree to the deal. A lot of guys have passed on these deals.

We already don't have a ton of MLE to use with the QO to Belly. I don't think it's smart using some of that money on a rookie second round draft pick. The odds are not in your favor that he's gonna be worth 3-4 years of a roster spot.

Is the luxury tax figured out at the end of the year? Say we sign Belly and use the MLE putting us into the tax, can we get out of that if we make a trade at the trade deadline?
