I would offer Taj and Aldrich for Batum and Kaminsky.

This trade helps the Hornets they get 4 mil in cap off the books at the time of trade, they would save another 5 cutting Cole. Also one year deal of Taj and he is still producing and his 14 mil comes off the books next year.

Wolves would get the often hurt army switch knife in Batum, he would be our 6th man but finish the game with Teague/ wigg/ batum/ butler/ towns. We also add Frank the tank who could start and spread the floor and he is still pretty young.

In general I think the wolves should be looking to move Taj. I love Taj and even though i like the signing he out did my expectations. He just had a career year at 32 and I don't think we can expect that again out of him. He is still a productive player and he is a 14 mil expiring so that should bring value around the league

I like this idea, kekgeek. And I agree generally that the Wolves should focus in on the Hornets as a potential trade partner.

Batum's contract (can opt into 27 million in 2020-2021) gives me significant pause especially when you look at the shooting percentages he has and I've read heard his defense is no longer and asset and he might actually be subpar now on that end. I would rather not have one large contract that probably sucks I would rather look to go te direction where you have a couple of them because they will be easier to move down the road. I will say I have also thought about various trades with him involved though (it does make some sense) but for some of the reasons I have stated here it just doesn't make sense for me. Sadly Taj is probably the best player in that deal.

I hadn't checked his contract. Yikes! And I just looked at his stats and noticed his shooting percentages. Factoring those things in with his injury history, I no longer have any interest in any deal for him unless perhaps they also give us their 1st round pick.

I never thought about trading taj as a possible off season move. I saw him as a valuable player and locker room guy for us plus his contract end next season before kat and jimmy's extention.

But since keek bought it up, it does kind of make sense to explore taj deals this off season. His play this past season and impending expiring contract makes his trade value at his highest now.

Charlotte is a good partner. I would like to see a taj for marvin williams swap. Marvin is a medern day pf and shoots 40% of his 3's at 4 attempts per game. He has 1 more year than taj but we could his use him as a trade chip after next season, whereas taj will be a free agent then. Charlotte is rebuilding and will get to shed taj after next season.

Or we could just keep Taj and re-sign Bjelly, who seems like a cheaper version of Marvin Williams (I don't see Bjelly getting $14M per)? He may not be quite as versatile defensively, but I just feel like we're moving the deck chairs around without much forward progress with this trade.

I think it would be a mistake to trade Taj. He was such a consistent piece on this team. We should try to upgrade his position using other pieces and really have him be a bench piece.

Crazy idea, but since everyone is bringing up the Hornets.

Min gets Dwight's expiring
Charlotte gets Dieng, Cole and our first round pick

Move Towns to the 4 and slot Dwight in as our true defensive anchor. Move Taj to the bench. Everyone runs out to the 3pt line and feeds guys into Dwight. Crush everyone with a twin tower approach and just grab all the rebounds. I hate trading the pick, but I also hate Dieng's deal and he's never been a fit next to Towns. I'd also do this deal for DJ if the Clippers wanted to and the money worked.

Bobby Marks quote on Espn:

"Jamal Crawford opting out of his $4.5M contract for 2018-19 now has Minnesota with $117M in salary (including the OKC 1st), $6M below the luxury tax. The Timberwolves can create $4.9M in additional flexibility if they waive Cole Aldrich by June 30. The center has $2.05M in salary protection. Crawford has non-bird rights and Minnesota is restricted to $5.19M in the first year they can offer the guard. Minnesota does have the $8.6M midlevel and $3.4M biannual exception available but using more than $5.29M of the midlevel would hard cap the team."

Seems like waving Cole will give us a variety of limited options for spending. Although these amounts aren't huge I think we are going to have some options.

Q, Im thinking that with Marvin williams having 1 more year on his deal after next season, it gives us the option of using his 15m expiring in the off season of 2019-2020 season as trade chip.

Whereas if we let taj walk after next season, we dont get anything in return as we are over the cap and is limited in our ability to add players to the team via signings. We would have 2 expirings at that year's off season with williams and teague.

This is all assuming that we are going forward with the butler/kat/wiggins trio. Having decent players with big expirings can be useful in getting quality players / assets in trades. I like taj and never thought of trading him, but his value is at its peak now considering his career year and big expiring. That makes trading him an angle that needs to be explored.

If we're going to trade with Charlotte why wouldn't we try and get Walker? Yes there would be mystery to whether or not he could or would resign but that is going to be an issue around the league for a lot of teams. Imagine upgrading Teague to Walker, insane. I also don't think Charlotte is going to get very much for Walker based on his expiring contract. Maybe we have absolutely no shot, but I'd focus my energy there. Something Teague or Tyus for Kemba related.

One reason to be looking at the Hornets is...they have a new GM what is Kupchak going to do? They don't even have a coach yet? Are they going to try and keep building for do some sort of semi rebuild and keep some young pieces? It's a mystery. I think they should sell off anything they can get for decent value. I don't think they will get a huge return on Kemba but they shouldn't just hold onto him. I'd think they could do a bit better than the Bledsoe deal but expecting some big haul is unlikely. I do t see that team going anywhere with him they should be looking for the best deal and rebuilding.

I'd be down to get Kemba, but I'm not giving up Tyus because I just don't see how we sign all of Kemba, Jimmy and Towns in one off-season. We're gonna need a cheaper PG with our current big 3 on those next deals.
