I just saw that, Wild. They used the MLE of $8.4 million per year to sign him. This confirms that the Wolves didn't pursue him because we could have easily outbid the Rockets.

Here's my question for you and anyone else out there. Does the Wolves front office have any plan beyond trading for Butler and effectively swapping Ricky for Teague?

We saw reports the Wolves were pursuing Redick and Millsap. One is a 3-point sniper, the other isn't. Each represents a very different path. Obviously we weren't going to get both since either one would have consumed all our remaining cap space. In fact, it was unrealistic to think we could sign either of those two with only around $15 million cap space left. Thibs has talked repeatedly about the compelling need to upgrade our 3-point shooting, but he traded our best 3-point shooter, LaVine, and hasn't added any upper eschelon 3-point shooters to the roster. There were no reports of the Wolves pursuing two attractive 3-point shooting RFAs, Snell and Ingles, who have both now re-signed with their current teams. Thibs talked about the need to add toughness, yet it appears he made no effort to sign what we now know would have been a very affordable PJ Tucker. I'm confused, but perhaps I'm just easily confused.

The next few days will be critical in determining whether the Wolves can fill in our disturbingly thin bench with enough quality rotation players to be a legitimate upper tier team.

I think they are playing it smart by letting the big money role players go and then they can almost pick who they want from what's left because we'll be one of the few teams with space still while being a great team to join. A lot of the early contracts last season were the bad ones before the market properly set itself for the lower tier guys and teams got some very productive guys on cheaper deals. Could we have given Tucker more, sure. But do you really want to use 10 of our remaining 15 million on a backup wing who doesn't solve our biggest problem on the wing which is shooting? JJ and Ingles got way too much money. Let the market keep dropping and then pick up 2-3 guys where you previously may have only got 1 or 2.

Agreed, these are all bad to average contracts at best. Butler adds to our toughness, we replaced the worst shooting PG in league history with an above average PG. Lip, we addressed toughness and shooting in our only two moves. We are done yet, we will get Millsap, just watch

JJ Reddick 1 year 23 million from Philly

Great signing for Philly. He'll be a nice veteran shooter and stabilizing presence as they sort out all their talent this year. It's a shit-ton of money, but for only one year I think it's worth it.

By the way, if Embiid is healthy, a 7 or 8 seed is not out of the question for Philly given how weak the East is shaping up. That dude is a 2-way game changer. Better than KAT if healthy.

I just can't believe Indiana couldn't get more for Paul George or take that Boston deal. That pisses me off more than anything, because if OKC came up empty handed this offseason, they might be a team that slips a notch (Westbrook is bound to slow down a bit or get hurt, no?). Instead, a team from the East bails them out and makes our path more difficult.

If Milsap goes to Denver, I will absolutely lose it.

Do you think it's time to rethink the playoffs or even the conferences? Mix the Eastern and Western conference teams after they get into the playoffs, seeding by record regardless of conference? Top 16 records into the playoffs no matter the conference? Get rid of the conferences altogether? I honestly think it's time to at least start talking about these questions.

The Ibaka and Holiday deals make me feel a little better. I mean....the Jrue Holiday one especially was eye popping. He's in the Rubio/Teague tier of point guards in my opinion and he got just a massive deal.

Rubio is a freakin' bargain on that deal, I'm telling you. Thibs was barking up the wrong tree, but it was obvious from the get-go that Rubio wasn't his kind of PG. It is what it is.

Now I hope Milsap just stays the eff away from the Western Conference. What the hell is Boston doing!? Milsap is absolutely perfect for them. (so was Butler). (so was George)...etc.
