oh christ give me a break, Thibs is an elite coach and was the number target for teams last year of course he's equipped to coach this team.

So why is he so worried about fixing an offense that wasn't that big of a problem? If the whole mission is to now run up the score, defense and depth be damned, why is he here? He's not here because we think he knows what he's doing on offense. He's here to make that defense click while maintaining our offense. Year 1, he failed on that front. Now I just see him building the team he couldn't get far with in Chicago. In a PG's league, he's trying to win in spite of one. With all the ball movement leading to excellent results, he wants to go full ISO. He wants spacing yet he passes up Hield last year and I don't see how he can address the shooting now. I just don't believe in the idea that "hey Thibs will coach em up" when our two cornerstone players got worse under him defensively and it's far from a guarantee that everyone takes that leap. That's a reasonable outlook even if it is pessimistic.

numbers are in 3 years 57 million with a player option

Don't mind the deal. Hate the player option after only 2 years.

But that's the new NBA. Shorter deals. More movement. 365 days of talking heads discussing it.

It's what the fans (casual) want.

Teague, Butler and Wiggins all get to the line and Teague and Butler are very good playmakers off dribble penetration. We're going from 1 guy who can score off the dribble to 3 and the two we just added also dish out 13 combined assists per game as well. And none of that even accounts for Towns. He's assembling a very good roster that's going to be tough to stop.

I actually think they become easier to stop because Wiggins and Towns become unwilling to dish out late in games, especially when Towns goes into heroball mode.

Butler is just gonna take over if Towns and Wiggins try to fuck around at the end of games. Also Towns is a big so he doesn't get to decide when he gets the ball. I think that's an irrational fear and one of the bigger stretches to date to try to disprove that this is gonna work.

It's fair to worry about ISO heavy players, because teams are so much better when they buy into passing. But Butler and Teague can also both pass, so it's not like they're Carmelo Anthony or Andrew Wiggins(!) or anything.

This team does need a willing passer though to help set the tone. Joe Ingles comes to mind!

We subtracted 12 assists in Ricky and Lavine in the starting lineup and added 13 in Teague and Butler. And both Teague and Butler can score off the dribble. I have 0 worries about how this team will do offensively. It all comes down to rim protection at this point in my mind.

Teague has gotten to the line at a pretty solid rate the last few years. This team could really put some serious pressure on teams by getting them in foul trouble.

Would you rather have Ricky and 4 million in cap space or Teague and a 1st round pick next year when we previously would not have had one? I think option 2 is a nice haul.

That's the way I'm looking at it, Kahns. It will be very interesting to see what we do with the remaining roughly $18 million in cap space.

Yeah that pick and what we do with it, as well as how Rubio plays next season probably will make or break this swap. We downgraded in play making and defense for a slight boost in shooting. We traded a better defensive fit for a slightly better offensive fit. Maybe Teague elevates his game. Time will tell.

I loved Rubio, and I'm not thrilled with the Teague signing, but unless Rubio can keep up his hot streak from the end of the year last year, Teague's going to be more than a slight boost in shooting. He shoots a full 5% better from three on a higher volume. I also like that Teague should give us improved dribble penetration, because that is important from your PG in today's game. But yeah, he'll be a real drop off from Rubio defensively, IMO, at least off the ball. But I think he'll still be a halfway decent on the ball defender.

I don't think the Rubio-Teague switch will help us nearly as much as the Butler trade, but I can see how he makes more sense in terms of fit. I do wish we had been able to lock him up for a little less money though.

Are Teague and Millsap homies? Does this signing help the team get Millsap and at a good price?

I wondered the same thing. Millsap would give the team a great starting 5 top to bottom. Maybe the best in the league.
