People are gonna get hot and just post crazy numbers game to game like the Rockets role players last game. And then they'll have duds where the other team will blow them out. When you jack up as many 3's as these teams do it really just comes down to who's making their shots and if they aren't both making their shots it's just not gonna be close.

Interestingly, GSW was 16th in the league in three point attempts this season.

And they're last among the final four teams left.

To be fair, they're shooting more of them in the playoffs. And making less. The team is down to 33.2% on three pointers... only SAS was worse.

They made up for attempts by being #1 in percentage leaving them 8th overall in 3 pointers made per game during the regular season and we all know how much they can lay it on when they are hitting their shots. It still comes down to who's hitting their shots and if there is any difference between the two it's gonna be a blow out.

Yeah. Not disagreeing with that part. The variances do make super close games for 7 games pretty damn hard to achieve.

Just thought it was interesting that GSW isn't a prolific three point taking team despite having three of the better shooters in the league behind the arc.

This is due to Curry missing 30+ games. The guy averages almost 10 3's per game. Add 300 more 3's to that club for 30 games, and they are in top 5. It's just impossible to maintain that pace with lesser shooters. They are still prolific....when their core guys play.

Interesting stuff on them shooting fewer thread that expected. My questions are:

Who are the other guys that take and make 3's?

How many games was Curry out?

Some teams basically only play a couple guys that don't take 3's. GS has played a number of bigs that basically don't take them.

Golden State led the league in attempts two years ago at 31.6.
Last year, they dipped to 31.2 per game.
This year it was at 28.9.

When Curry was out, Quinn Cook averaged about 5 attempts per game... so that affected it somewhat... but not by 300. It's not like Curry was directly replaced with S. Livingston.

The rest of the league has made that shot more and more of a team focus... GSW seems to be basically staying the course. Having arguably the league's best mid-range shooter (Durant) obviously comes into play a bit.

Note: The Wolves have ranked #30, #30, #29 and #30 for three point attempts the past four seasons with 3 different coaches...

Yeah, Durant is the key here in that nearly any shot he takes is a good one! And even Klay and Steph are so pure with their shot that an open mid-range is probably a pretty high percentage shot, even in terms of eFG, whereas some guys are only good shooters when stationary (I'm thinking of guys like Tucker or Ariza...they aren't the types that can take three dribbles and then square up with a picture perfect jumper).

Does anyone else get annoyed by 24 hour NBA coverage too? All credit to Houston for winning, but I come from the old adage that it isn't a series until a game is won on the road. GS already did that. Houston is a dead man walking unless they pull a miracle off in GS. This bullshit that Houston made it a series with their last win is silly. I don't get why the media panders to the product now. When Chicago dominated they at least seemed to have the spine to not get swayed by whimsical fantasies (like Houston having any chance in this series).

While I think I understand the criticism of seemingly kneejerk reactionary stuff...

Count me in for thinking it's gonna be an extended series. Both series most likely. If CLE somehow loses tomorrow... that one is dead. But I see both going 7.

As long as Houston's role players play decent they have a chance at winning the series. CP3 and Harden can match Steph and KD and Gordon on a good shooting night matches Klay. They have a shot, but their role players are gonna have to play decently for the whole series.

I think a lot more has got to go right for Houston than that. Klay and Steph had an off game, even if Curry is injured I don't see that happening again. Every level of comparison with the starters GS has the edge. If they can get a game back in GS i'll be interested. But I anticipate a 3-1 GS lead after these next two games.
