Re: Wiggins needs about 45 games to warm up
We all knew that Wigs and KAT would get more shots when LaVine went down. I am hoping that Wigs and KAT truly take it upon themselves to be the center of the offense, even when Zach is back. When there are more scorers on the floor, it is very easy to take a back seat and hope your teammates do the bulk of the heavy lifting. Andrew's motor has often been in question, so maybe he kinda let Zach and KAT do more when all 3 were on the floor. I love our big 3, but if a trade could be made that brought back defensive players (who are capable of scoring..ala, a 3-D wing), maybe Thibs should consider it. Wigs and KAT are certainly living up to their #1 overall status, but this team still needs some more pieces (along with Zach and Dunn showing more improvement). Good to see Wigs starting to dominate!

Just for fun... KAT's last 3 games...
30.7 ppg
19.0 reb
68.3% fg
66.7% 3fg
Wiggins has been excellent, too. Scoring about 30 over the past few weeks with good efficiency. And extremely consistent.
Fun times. Keep it going.

There's no question that Wig and KAT get a lot more shots with Zach out, and seem to perform better. But I'm still not in favor of trading any of the 3 unless we get something of equal or better value in return. But the latest surge makes me feel even stronger that Zach's best role is as a scorer off the bench, getting a lot of his minutes when The big 2 are on the bench. As bad as Rush has been, we do seem to be stronger defensively against opponents' starters with Rush at SF and Wig at SG, and a stronger SF could make this strategy even better. Wig could play 20 minutes at SG and 15 at SF, with Zach getting the other 28 at SG. Our young Big 3 are all terrific scorers, and it may not be beneficial to have all three on the court at the same time...perhaps each of their scoring potential can be better met when they only have one other big scorer on the court with them. Thibs seems to have acknowledged this by playing Zach a lot with the second team, but I think he can take this even further and not start and end games with all three of them on the court.

I'm also of the belief that Zach's best role on this team should be 6th man and the scoring anchor of the 2nd unit. If we can find that physical wing player that can play defense, Wig can stay at the 2 and I think we can really take off.

Part of Wiggins not taking over at times was because there were other players doing their things. Without Zach there Wiggins has it even easier to insert himself (as well as Towns) but he still picks his spots he just has more opportunities and damn right now he is locked in when to do it nailing shots everything.
I'd like to see the metrics that show the improvement defensively without Lavine in the lineup.
I find it strange that there is so much talk about how the league has changed and we need 3 point shooting but Lavine who is the best 3 point shooter by miles gets marginalized. Heck Belly is another volume 3 point shooter that people tend to want to dump. We need more guys that can shoot that 3 and it's not always easy to find them.

Belly is shooting 31% from 3. There are better options (he is the best option we have right now)

I said volume. Belly takes 5.7 3's per 36 minutes. Lavine took 6.4. The next highest guys are Rush and Tyus at 4.3. One of the problems of this franchise for years has been not just fiinding good percentage 3 point shooters but guys that would actually chunk it up there at a high rate.
As far as his 3 point percentage shooting...Belly had a bad month of January where he couldn't buy a 3 but the other months he has shot it well enough. He is shooting 3's at a 42% clip in February he could easily end up shooting it 35% or so from 3 when the season finishes up.

So Belly has a chance to be only slightly below average shooting three pointers (if he gets hot) by season's end.
Awesome.
Awesome.
Re: Wiggins needs about 45 games to warm up
Is it just me or has Wiggins been far more consistently engaged in the game? There haven't been any games recently that he just flat out disappeared for long stretches.

Re: Wiggins needs about 45 games to warm up
In the past 18 games...
Wiggins has made at least 7 buckets in every game.
He's taken between 17 and 29 shots.
And scored at least 21 points every time out.
There's some unprecedented consistency in there.
