Frustrating times...
I can't stand how quick teams are to blow up their rosters for instant results in today's NBA. The Spurs haven't been the best team in the NBA over the last 15 years or so by shipping out any failing prospect. They give their team years to gel with incoming players. There just seems to be such little chemistry these days for NBA squads. Oklahoma City, while not on San Antonio's level, has found great success by giving key players years to build connections with teammates. Minnesota haven't made the playoffs in 10 years because, every few seasons, the Front Office decides to blow the roster up. Last year, we had great talent, but little chemistry with Muhammed, Dieng, Martin, Turiaf, Hummel, Jeffers, and Mbah a Moute coming in. I think Flip needs to reconsider his approach to trading Love. Why go through the vicious circle of blowing up the roster every 3 years or so when it just enhances the mediocrity? If no decent trade presents itself, hunker down the fort and just hope for the best with Love. I'd rather be hung out to try with roughly 16 million in cap space then commit long term to expensive, above-average players.

The spurs never had to blow it up because they've won 50+ games a season every year for the last decade

I agree. I'd rather let him walk and have the flexibility than have cap eating players that are not difference makers. I am still open to a picks heavy deal with Boston. We are rebuilding. Let's just admit it.

In pretty much every interview radio spot Flip has mentioned continuity so he is on the same page as you and I think it may be one reason he is less likely to trade Love than people here believe. Its what you describe that is one reason I believe Love is not planning to stay. What guy has he played with for more than 3 years? Nobody. Its been continuous turnover year after year. Its gotta get old having your teammates be new all the time. Its hard to invest when you wonder if that guy will be there in a few months. Kinda hard to lead too.

Flexibility and assets (picks and stashed prospects) are huge for the future of an NBA team.
I'm relieved we have no cap space to work with in this crazy off season. Players are being seriously overpaid.
Brooklyn is in a real pickle atm. No picks, in the luxury with terrible contracts and no real potential. That's why I'm intrigued with a Love trade to BOS for their stash of BKNs picks.

These teams without flexibility today are going to get some relief when the new TV deal goes into effect. The cap will rise dramatically, so some of the contracts being signed right now are not going to look as bad. Smart GM's realize this and are taking advantage of it.

Not sure what thread to post this under, but... The Rockets (lost Asik + Lin, possibly Parsons too. Ariza doesn't make up for Lin + Asik), Mavs (lost Calderon for Chandler), Grizzlies (lost Miller and Johnson, possibly Davis too; added Carter) and Suns (when they lose Bledsoe) got worse this off-season, at least to this point.
Sure, New Orleans got better (Asik), but maybe we just need a new coach (Flip), a new backup point guard and some close games to go our way to make the playoffs. Budinger should be returning to form by season's start, plus Muhammad could provide good minutes off the bench with Dieng. Not to mention the expected improvement from Rubio even if it's just a little bit.
I can feel some optimism entering my body..

If you go down that road with Love you can't just run it back with the same roster. Needing a backup PG and also someone who can take pressure off of Love at the end of games have to be adressed

I agree Love needs help at the end of games but he also could benefit greatly from having Love in the middle of the game like when he isn't on the floor. The bench was terrible and it put pressure (and a lot of minutes) on the starters including Love. I think that was a big factor in not being able to finish.

I agree, which is why I'd be in favor of trading for Eric Gordon (Martin + Budinger). Still think that deal would make a ton of sense for both teams.
Even if we don't make a move like that, though, I still could see this roster competing for a 6-8 seed.
