Windhorst on the Wolves and Giannis:
"The most aggressive team in the West right now is the Minnesota Timberwolves. They are in the game for Giannis. I don't believe that their offers can outweigh the other offers, and I'm not even sure that Giannis is getting traded before Thursday. The Timberwolves are being aggressive. If they don't make what I would call a Hail Mary Giannis deal, I think they are aggressively looking to upgrade their backcourt."
There is enough smoke here by credible reporters that Connelly is obviously in discussions with Milwaukee. I'm skeptical anything gets done ultimately, but I wonder what Connelly's logic is with this pursuit of Giannis, as obviously it would put a serious crimp in this season's theme of "continuity" with a coach that thrives on in-season continuity and whose teams always seem to struggle for 25+ games in integrating new players. And this is assuming Giannis can even play 25 more games this year with the calf strain!
So I am not saying I agree or disagree with this logic but I could see Connelly thinking the wolves are just capped out. This season we are getting a top 5 player in the NBA season out of Ant, going to finish in the top 2 in DPOY Rudy, All star consideration from Randle, Naz the favorite to win 6MOY, Jaden has taken a pretty big leap and is shooting over 40% from 3, a very solid Donte season and with all that the wolves are in that 2 through 7 mix. We are getting fantastic season from our top 6 and we are just ok relative to the rest of the west. Are we capped out. How do we get better, we got a ton of internal development I would say our whole top 6 is better this year than last. We don't really have young players in the pipeline outside of Beringer because DIlly has been a bust so far, Clark is sort of a low ceiling high floor role player and TSJ is old as dirt for a 2nd year player and has struggled mightly in more minutes this year (I will give him some benefit of the doubt because of the foot) but its not like a young player is projected to develop and put us over the top.
So how do we get better in the before the summer of 29 happens where Ant leaves or he gets his super max what makes it hard to build around him in the apron era? One possibility is adding a top 5 player in the NBA, I do think Giannis raises this teams ceiling but also lowers the floor. You are right Q on the Giannis might not even play this year boat but I am not saying this is the goal but if we missed the playoffs it is a great year to be in the lottery because this draft class is loaded. Also if the jazz fall out of the top 8 we do not swap with them (They lose their pick) and the if the Wolves did move up in the lotto the worst pick the wolves could end up with is 8 because of swapping with the Jazz.
I would be sad if Jaden is traded but outside of a coach change (what may or may not work), I am really worried that this team is just capped out because we are getting above average seasons from our top 6 and we are still in the chaos of the West.
So here is another angle that doesn't seem far-fetched to me. If TC wanted to gauge the trade market for Randle and/or NAZ, what better way to disguise it as a "only for Giannis" cloak. Everyone can understand you would include those two players for a Giannis type deal, without making it seem you just might want to move one of those guys anyways!

The Timberwolves are gauging the trade value of Julius Randle and Naz Reid for a potential Giannis Antetokounmpo blockbuster.
Minnesota will likely need to surrender a package of Randle, Reid and Jaden McDaniels to satisfy the Bucks’ significant draft pick threshold for Giannis.
-Evan Sidery
Randle, Reid, and Jaden is an awful lot for an oft injured player, even if it is Giannis. I want Giannis but hopefully Rob and Joan could allow us to keep Jaden.

One factor to the Timberwolves’ aggressive pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo is their new ownership group.
Acquiring Giannis to pair alongside Anthony Edwards is a splash owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez have dreamed of.
Keep a close eye on Minnesota over the next 72 hours.

I'm getting a little skeptical of Sidery Kek....any one of us could have come up with this throwaway speculation. I'm not saying the interest in Giannis isn't real, but this "factor" is pretty unoriginal don't you think?

Heh, love it!
Another angle is that the Wolves would be involved in a Giannis deal, but more like a facilitator and we end up improving our guard depth in the process and leave most of our core in tact. Kinda anti-climactic but that's how things sometimes work out.

I agree with you here. The only thing is that it’s being supported by Shams and Windhorst and I trust those 2

I agree to some extent (I do think we can turn it on even more though). However I think a more reliable PG who can get buckets every night would raise our floor. Say Naz is having an off night, we're basically cooked. We got no one who we can count on to pick up the bench scoring. Bones is hit or miss, Conley is what he is, Joan depends on others to feed him, TJ is a huge disappointment play and injury wise this year and Clark is obviously a defender, non scorer.
It's plain as freakin day we need a dependable bucket getter/creator.

Yes, someone that can get us points but also can handle the basketball. It would make us a lot better.

Why do the Wolves need to make a splash?
This is the first sustained legit success the franchise has had in 35 years for chrissakes. It's not like it's falling apart. It's not like fans are growing frustrated. It's not like they have to appease the star player.
