Here’s what I think is going on. I think the Wolves are serious about filling one of their two remaining roster spots with a rotation player IF they can get the right one.
Right now, I think they’re focused like a laser on luring LeBron here to be our starting PF. I suspect the next step they have in mind if that doesn’t pan out is to make a trade for PJ Washington. The salaries match up perfectly for PJ if we trade a package of Josh, Mo and TJ. An alternative to that could be trading Josh and Donte, in which case we would keep TSJ and reduce payroll by about $7M. I just don’t see Dallas keeping PJ and his fairly sizable 4-year contract. Getting Green and TSJ would be a huge plus for Dallas. I probably wouldn’t do that deal if I were in TC’s shoes but I think Dallas would take it in a heartbeat. I’d push for the Josh/Donte deal, which I also think would be a plus for Dallas. My view is that every valuable player asset we have should be available from the beginning of the season given the organization's win-now aspirations and that means keeping TSJ rather than Donte. The Mavs can’t have championship aspirations for next season, which means they can be patient waiting for Donte and then signing him for next season at a much lower salary than they’d be paying Washington. Meanwhile, Green would fill a Mavs need as a rotation 3&D wing for them.

We could have matched that with the portion of our taxpayer MLE we can spend without exceeding the 2nd apron.

Both Jon K And Dane Moore say they can see the Wolves going into the season with what they have and Jaden at PF if they can't address the Forward spot with a real true starting level guy. A parallel was drawn between now and the Russell situation after the Gobert trade. This isn't maybe ideal but Jaden at PF actually makes plenty of sense to me.

That’s what I would do, Monster, and it makes sense for the Wolves to view it that way.Monster wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2026 9:25 pm Both Jon K And Dane Moore say they can see the Wolves going into the season with what they have and Jaden at PF if they can't address the Forward spot with a real true starting level guy. I am more concerned with him trying to guard guys that have 40 pounds on him. That raises the injury risk, not to mention wear him down.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2026 9:32 pmThat’s what I would do, Monster, and it makes sense for the Wolves to view it that way.Monster wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2026 9:25 pm Both Jon K And Dane Moore say they can see the Wolves going into the season with what they have and Jaden at PF if they can't address the Forward spot with a real true starting level guy. Re: Wolves Offseason Forward Options
If the Wolves can’t sign LeBron or trade for a starting caliber PF then I’m fine with starting the season with Jaden as our starting PF and probably TSJ as or SF. I think our trade options are very limited unless we’re willing to include TSJ in what would likely be a Josh Green-centric outgoing package. Maybe another team would value Donte enough to package him instead of TSJ.
Assuming we don’t acquire a starting-caliber PF (e.g., LeBron, PJ Washington), we’d have a lot of guard and wing depth with Ayo, Bones, Clark, Green and Evans. I have confidence in Jaden at the 4 and TSJ at the 3. But I’d like to add some size up front and I assume we’d use at least one if not both of the two remaining roster spots to sign a vet minimum PF to give us more front court depth - someone who could potentially be part of the rotation off the bench. Possibilities include Kevin Love, Jeremy Sochan, Trenton Waford, and Guerschon Yabusele.
