Is it really that much better to be a Vikings fan? Both teams have zero Super Bowl wins. Think about that.
Think about how hard it is to have never won a SB since it's inception as well.
But at least we've been to the big game before, WF...4 more times than the Lions. Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all, right?
And then there's our 79-39 record against them. 80-39 by the time the sun sets Sunday, baby!
Lions have also won 4 NFL Championships, prior to the merger and SB era of course. Last one was 1957.
I would say both franchises must be considered failures (especially the last 30 years). Being the best of the worst isn't really something to brag about. imo

From 2000 to 2020 the Vikings had the 12th most wins in the NFL. The Lions were only better than the Browns. The Vikings were above average. The Lions stunk. It's not really comparable.
It's fine if you want to win a championship and tired of just being good/average. I'm not satisfied with where the Vikings have been the last few years either but again it could be worse. Remember when Jim Caldwell wasn't good enough for the Lions? Good times. They have won 14 total games since going for something better and Caldwell had/has the best winning percentage for a full time Lions head coach since the 50's.

The only really fun seasons were 98 and 09 for me. Both of those teams were legitimate contenders. Even more recently I don't think the Keenum team had a real shot.
Celebrating mediocrity isn't something I do. We should have higher standards. This is the NFL, we are not severely limited by location and taxes as much as the NBA, MLB, etc.
I'd rather win 4 games then 8-10 every year and then hopefully we could draft a superstar QB for once.

How has that worked for the Browns and Lions? The thing is that the Vikings didn't/don't HAVE to pick high to get a star QB.

It helps. But like we've seen minus the one year of Favre, we haven't had an elite level QB under Spielman.
So back to the point of this thread. You can't find a QB, get the fuck out.
I legitimately could do a better job then Spielman at least at the QB position. I wouldn't have overpaid Kirk, though I wanted him the price limit would have been much lower. I wouldn't have traded a 1st for Bradford. Then I would have drafted Watson, which could have been great who really knows for sure. But Watson on the field has been a top 5 QB in the league.
Spielman should have been fired after his Bradford trade failed. He went All-In on Bradford and we got an 8-8 season. Complete flop.
I'm not satisfied with a mediocre product. Spielman has had 16 years with the Vikings and not one SB appearance, that is ultimately a failure.

I'm waiting for Kyle Trask to become even an average NFL starter.

As far as HC I would like to see Josh McDaniels. Lots of experience, learned a thing or two from his first stint where he failed in Denver. He's helped make Mac Jones look great. I'm sure he was in on drafting Jones as well. So from that point of view I could see him having a good shot at rebuilding a franchise and developing a QB.
