I am not sure how you cut Reiff. There is no plan B on the roster and the draft is like rolling dice to find a left tackle.

As for Smith I just get visions of Eric Weddle in my head. He essentially was done at 32. I am not sure what the comps are for though for these types of guys that were never uber athletes to have longevity at the position.

I think we bring Barr back and I would do it over chasing Eric Wilson for big money. The team has struck out on developing LB's besides Wilson. We always seem to draft someone but have not had the results beyond role players which I guess is to be expected. It just would have been nice to have one player pop behind Kendricks and Barr.

I agree I think it's hard to let Reiff go. One of his strengths at this point is his durability which could go away but there are tackles that have played into and past their mid 30's. Replacing a LT via the draft is sorta similar to the dream of getting that franchise QB. You can save a bunch of money and possibly up grade the position but like you said it's rolling the dice.

Harrison Smith has always seemed pretty athletic to me.

The Vikings have done a solid job of finding 3rd LB rotation guys but yeah they haven't been able to develop anyone beyond that even though they have used some decent mid round picks on guys. They could really use a win from someone they have on the roster or with an upcoming pick in this draft. Last season having a healthy Ben Gedeon would have been kinda sexy.

I had to look up Harrison's draft profile. It would be interesting to see his speed traits. They have so much data these days to know when someone is failling off or not. I just worry him and Thelien will one day have just lost it and that is fine, but we have to get plan B in place like we did with Rudolph.

Stephen Weatherly back for 1 year 2.5 million with incentives that could make it 3 million. He didn't have a good year with the Panthers but at this price and his familiarity with the system it's a pretty solid deal.

Fun tidbit Weatherly was a guest judge on the glass blowing competition Netflix series "Blown Away". When they said the guest judge was a football player I immediately told my wife "I know who this is going to be." My wife was impressed with him he clearly knew what he was talking about. If you want an interesting but stressful show to watch (you never know when the glass will crack or fall and completely shatter) I recommend it. Last year before the pandemic I visited my parents and we went to a glass blowing studio and watched them make things for a half hour or more. It was fascinating.

Also I am pretty sure since Weatherly was released he won't be a factor in any comp pick calculations.

I wonder if Odenigbo is a possibility of returning. I wouldn't pay him much more than what Weatherly got. I'm not sure which guy I value more at this point. Kenny Willekes Might be a guy that is a natural replacement for him. Of course he may not even make the roster.

"He beat me... Straight up... Pay him... Pay that man his money."

I just saw this and was going to post it. I don't know what it really means, but I still hope D. J. Wonnum continues to prove me wrong and takes the RE job for the next 8 years.

PFF graded Jordan Brailford at 92. Clearly he is the future.

Meanwhile DJ Wonnum sounds like he will have a great career in the music industry. Seriously tho that's a heck of a name for that sphere.

Now I understand why Hunter backed off on his demand for a new contract. He will be lucky to make the team at this rate.

Lol

My guess is:

1. He was never that unhappy to begin with or

2. Was somewhat unhappy but with a serious injury realized he didn't have as much leverage. Still JJ Watt got 15 million a year and there are red flags about him being able to physically make it through a season. If Hunter is back healthy and is a top 5 DE or whatever he and the Vikings may work something out for a raise.

It's worth remembering that part of why Hunter's deal is a value contract is because the Vikings started paying him a year early. Instead of making less than a million bucks in year 4 he got over 5 million. I've seen people whine about the Vikings overpaying their own guys but to be honest that's one of the things that have gotten right quite a bit over the years. Part of the reason they got value for Diggs is because he was on a reasonable deal. The fact that Buffalo didn't have to rework his deal as it was reported that may happen was pretty nice for them. Like an article I read recently that was a trade that was a win for both teams. Hopefully the Vikings can get another contributor out of the mid round picks from that deal. I'm greedy I want 2 more contributors. Lol

I am hoping we have another strong draft class. Last year was not perfect, but getting DJ and Dantzler were great gets at were we got them. Hopefully Cleveland and Gladney also are solid.

If this team can find a diamond in the rough that can play 3T that would be great. I am just not sure I see a stud that would could pick at 14 and start on day one. If the Jets go Zach Wilson at #2 I would offer a 3rd for Sam Darnold.
