TOP 3 Draft need Positions?
Re: TOP 3 Draft need Positions?
What happened today? We looked like a legit team out there I'm not saying this just based on Cook's performance today but I'm telling you he is worth the money. The guy is really special. The difference between him and Mattison is significant and Mattison is a good player.
Wonnum is making his case that we don't need to draft a DE. It was interesting to see Hercules get reps at DE today. The dline did get some pressure especially up the middle.
I'm sure the wind helped the secondary but overall it was kinda nice to see the defense not look like a joke.

That has to be one of the top 5 or 6 individual performances by a Viking ever, no? 200+ total yards and 4 TDs for an away win against a strong Packers team?

I voted both guard spots and DT. Fix the trenches. Unfortunately Kirk's deal is just a major cap poison pill that I don't think we can swallow without throwing the next 2 seasons as much as I want to get rid of him. Get someone next to Pierce with a middle first round pick and then get the guard with our second round pick...oh wait.

Though the line played superb yesterday and maybe part of it was a poor GB defense, I'm going to say Cook is worth the money now. We still have long term Guard issues and defensive concerns as well so I felt like Cook was more of a luxury then a true need. It's easier to have an avg back run through great blocking then have a great back run through poor blocking.
Cook still seems to get banged up more then I would like and maybe they overuse him too. Though it's hard not to when he was playing like he was. Long term though maybe it's wise to keep the mileage down? Do we need 30 carries a game from him when this season in all reality is lost? Yeah we love to win in the now, but maybe consider the longer term ramifications too.

I watch the condensed game so sometimes I miss things but it kinda didn't feel like 30 carries but it was. I agree generally I'd like to keep the reps down but I bet the team was wanting that win. I heard Thielen told the coaches he would go in and play DB if they needed him too with all the injuries.

As it's looking now I might go RG, DT, LG. CB and DE also possibilities.

I'd certainly be looking to draft a safety. DE for me depends on what happens with Hunter. Does he really hold out for a massive salary bump? Do the Vikings give it to him? If for some reason they end up not keeping him then that's going to jump up the list. I'm not sure what to believe when it comes to the stuff about Hunter. I'm sure if the Vikings traded him the return would be MASSIVE. We might even be able to get a 1st round pick for the Wolves thrown in. Lol

Don't get me wrong I think Wonnum has been pretty solid. I just feel like you can never have enough pass rushers and yes Hunter is somewhat of an unknown as well. Pass rushers and shut down corners can make huge impacts on defense, so even if you have decent options I would always be looking to upgrade.
Was it the 07 Giants that beat the Pats what just pass rushed Brady to death. You got a legit Dline and it can take over a game by itself.

The Vikings have continually been able to find high end pass rushers with 3rd and 4th round picks. I know it's irrational to assume they can keep that up but...it's just kept happening. I'm not against drafting one high but I'd look at other positions at this point IF Hunter was gonna be on the roster.

Hunter signed his extension not that long ago. Even if the Vikings give him a raise I still imagine them as having a lot of the cards in this one. With that said, I'd much sooner trade Barr and let Harris walk than trade Hunter. The only way I'd even consider trading Hunter is if it netted us a premium quarterback in this draft and the FO was absolutely convinced he would be a stud ala Trevor Lawrence. Hunter is young, until this injury he was ultra durable, he is probably a top 3 DE in this league when healthy, which is a premium position and one our defense could use (LE). In my opinion, him and Harrison Smith are the 2 best players on our defense, and Hunter is the younger one. He's also probably one of the top 4 players on the team.
