I thought Id ask evryone here to do there own offseason plans this year. I'm in the middle of writing up mine. I think it would be fun to comapre and contrast. If your wondering the Twins will have with added revenue around 75 millon to spend this offseason if they keep the margins the same.

The Offseason Is Upon us so I thought I give my Early plan on what to do with the team. The Twins are interesting position having all these young guys locked into arbitration or nice long-term deals like Kepler and Polanco. As of right now accounting for arbitration the twin's payroll sits around 69 Million. Two years ago, the Twins had a payroll of 130 Million and last year payroll was 120 million. Based on the increase revenue this year and I'm sure many season tickets the sold for next year we should be an around 140 million but let's be honest were in a winning window so let's bump it up to 145-150 Million.
This give the Twins around 75 million Dollars to play with so this my offseason plan.
With Jake Ordozzi getting the QO which I suspect he will take that's 18 million off the books. To be fair I been writing this since Saturday in my original plan I did suggest giving him the QO.
Now to fix the rest of the rotation
Zach Wheeler: (4 Years 72 million)
I think Zach is perfect fit for Wes Johnson. He has 97 mph fastball and is ready to take the next step to quality ace in his career. He has a strong 9.0 K/9 which I think with Wes tinkering can even go higher. I don't feel comfortable with Strasburg arm holding up for 6 years and there's to many reports of Cole going to somewhere on the West coast.
Robbie Ray (10.8 million 2020/Sign to extension like Wheeler (18-20 mil per year subtract 9 million Eddie Rosario)
I believe the Twins should trade Eddie Rosario, Jordy Blaze and Brent Rooker)
Why the Diamondbacks do this trade they get a clean up hitter to play left field. David Pelrata hit .275 with only 12 home runs in that ballpark playing left field for them. They also get a ready guy in Rooker to compete for a job at first base and a top 100 prospect in Jordy Blaze to eventually replace Ray. Why the Twins do it is because the same reason I would sign Zach Wheeler. There's potential huge upside to this guy.
Anthony Rendon (8 Years 264 Million)
So, I just traded our cleanup hitter but I'm replacing him with a Bonafede stud in Rendon. Rendon is the perfect for any team but especially ours. He can take over 3rd for Sano and Sano can make the change to first base during the offseason. Also, he has playoff experience now =)
I move Marwin to Left field till Larnach or Killroff are ready to take over halfway through the year.
Extend Byron Buxton his estimate is going to be around 3 million this year in arbitration. So, I would offer him 6 for 60 million. Let's be honest if he's healthy he's worth way more but the problem is he's never healthy. I think it's a team friendly deal that works for both parts involved. (7millon more per year)
I like all these deals because they help us now. The only guy we have left to lock up that's a starter is Sano but with Odo coming off the books you can give that 18 million to Sano or give Sano the QO offer as well. I Spent 85Million to put our pay roll 154 Million. Yes, I did overspend by 4 million, but I think its worth it to lock up Buxton. Let me know what you think of the plan. Hopefully the Pohlad's finally open the checkbook.

I'm with you on most of these moves but 8 years for Rendon frightens me. I get you have to do that if you want to get a top player but...that's a lot of money for a long time for a guy that turns 30 next year.

I am with Monster there. I honestly don't know enough about these guys. I tend to think anything over 3 years on a guy 30 or older is risky business.

I think everyone looks at these 8 year deals the wrong way. There's like 5 percent chance that Rendon is productiv at age 38. Your not paying for the producton that year. Its years 1-5 maybe 6 of the contract your paying for. Would we not all agree the Twins window is Open for the next 5-6 years espically after next year when Cleveland will lose Kluber and will have to pay Rameriez and Lindor. This is time to hand out a big contract to somone because the window is open. I care what Rendon is going to do the next 3-5 years and live with the consequences down the line because were taking a shot at winning a World Series.
Perfect example of this is Max Schezer he was 29 when they gave him his 7 year 210 million dollar contract. Hes in year 4 of it and prodcued a World Series ring. I bet you by year 6 hes not the same pitcher. Your already seen this year with his couple stints on the IL. At the end of the day they paid him to produce through years 1-5 take a shot at world series. If he has era of 4+ in years 6 and 7 no Nationals fan or front office will care because he produced a World Series for Washington

Jester - Very well said, but wonder if LA will go after him. Would you have an interest in Donaldson for 2 years? Maybe Royce Lewis will be 3B of the future here.
Part of me would be willing to move on from Both Sano and Rosario. If we can get an ACE for Sano I would deal him.

Jester I do look at the long contracts that way. Those deals if they don't work out can still hurt you even in the short term. It's a gamble and I never said I absolutely wouldn't do it but it certainly worries me. Yes it worked out with the Max S. Deal but how many other ones didn't? Just to be clear I'm not taking pot shots at your plan or your idea of signing Randon for that deal just saying how I feel.
Just know I respect you for putting your plan out there. I probably won't I just don't know the league well enough and with baseball having such an extensive minor league system that makes decision what to do even harder because there are even more options and moves to make than say the NFL or NBA. You MIGHT actually have 3 studs in the minor league system. That's not as likely with the NBA. It's also more likely to be able to find some random pitchers that ca be high end or well above average that basically come out of nowhere. You don't play for those things though...well maybe planning for finding one trash heap reliever in signing a bunch of minor league deal guys is reasonable. Lol

I would love to have Donaldson but he got a QO from the Braves. Hes the clean up hitter on very good youn team I dont see him not taking the offer. I think Royce Lewis will be in the outfield ny the time he becomes a major leaguer or 2nd baseman. Sano is a tricky guy to figure out what his value is around the league. I mean would you trade him straiht up for Robbie Ray? because I would be on the fence on that one.

I'm not mad or anything its just in baseball there's no cap so theortically if the Twins wanted they could sign Cole, Strausburg and Rendon. My point was to state if the Twins dont take a shot on a top guy this offseason then it will never happen as long as the Pohlads are in charge. I looked up the 10 biggest contracts from the last 10 years to see if they worked out. The bar I judge on is if they team made a World Series during the contract.
1. Bryce Harper, Phillies: 13 years, $330 million (2019-31) TBD
2. Manny Machado, Padres: 10 years, $300 million (2019-28) TBD
3. Alex Rodriguez, Yankees: 10 years, $275 million (2008-17) YES
4. Alex Rodriguez, Rangers: 10 years, $252 million (2001-10) NO
5 (tie). Albert Pujols, Angels: 10 years, $240 million (2012-21)NO
5 (tie) Robinson CanĂ³, Mariners: 10 years, $240 million (2014-23) NO
7. David Price, Red Sox: 7 years, $217 million (2016-22) YES
8. Prince Fielder, Tigers: 9 years, $214 million (2012-20) YES
9. Max Scherzer, Nationals: 7 years, $210 million (2015-21)YES
10. Zack Greinke, D-backs: 6 years, $206.5 million (2016-21) YES kind of
Just basing on this its a 40/60 Shot of producing going to the World Series during those contracts.
