Camden, we need you to have a talk with your boy Berrios. He's given up 5 runs in 5 innings or less in each of his last two starts...got lit up again last night. This guy can reach upper 90s on the gun and has a killer slider, so he just shouldn't be getting hit like he is. I wonder if he's hurt or maybe just tired. If he's healthy, we need him to pick it up in his final starts.

Here's our top-10 prospects going into next year according to Baseball Prospectus, a site I think is pretty reliable.
1. CF Byron Buxton
2. 3B Miguel Sano
3. RHP Alex Meyer
4. RHP Kohl Stewart
5. C Josmil Pinto
6. RHP Jose Berrios
7. 2B/CF Eddie Rosario
8. LHP Lewis Thorpe
9. RHP Felix Jorge
10. 2B Jorge Polanco

Also, those guys seem to think a lot of Meyer as they had a debate over who was the better prospect, Meyer or Stewart. Take a look.

Pretty easy to get excited about that list, cam...there can't be a better top ten in all of baseball.
I was planning to go watch a few of the Arizona fall games, but decided not to when Buxton got hurt. Now I wish I had gone just to see Meyer. Apparently he was dazzling, and most scouts say he will be ready to contribute in the bigs this year. I know I wouldn't want to step into the box against a guy that big with a 100MPH fastball and a knee-buckling slider.
Nice to see young Lewis Thorpe on the list for the first time. He has put on 55 pounds since we drafted him at 16, is now reaching 95 regularly with still more upside, and can command four pitches. After the season ended he pitched for Australia in a tournament, and his K:BB ratio continued to be ridiculous. He's just turned 18, so it's fun to project how good he might be in a couple years. I have watched video of him, and my only concern is his delivery form. He has the classic "inverted W" style, which often leads to elbow and shoulder problems...hopefully his coaches can correct this without limiting his effectiveness.

Thorpe is a really interesting prospect. We seem to be the only team that scouts much in Australia, and we found him as a skinny 16-year-old lefty two tears ago. Since then he has filled out and dazzled everywhere he has pitched, always against older competition. No longer skinny, he's now a big lefty who just turned 18...with still more room to grow, there is some thought he will top out in the upper 90s. His change up is already a plus pitch, and his curve and slider are also progressing nicely. High K rate, and never walks anyone. Along with Meyer and Stewart, we have three guys who could be a number one starter in 3 years.

We had a young Johan before... but then he had Tommy John and some down years after... Then we traded him to Chicago... Then he signed with the Pirates and looked all healthy again... Ugh -__-

You guys know how much I like Lewis Thorpe...incredible how good he is at only 18! Here's a nice article about him by Tom Powers. Interesting to hear Antony compare him to Kohl Stewart.
Twins rotation in four years could be scary: Meyers, Gibson, Stewart, Gonsalves, Berrios, Thorpe...and some others behind them if any of these guys can't cut it. And then back that up with the lineup we can potentially put out there, and we could be talking World Series in 2018.

Can we just all agree that we can't wait for three years down the road, even if these guys don't fully pan out the product is going to be way better.

It's a new season, and time to check on the progress of our young pitching prospects. I've attached a great article from a guy who just watched several of them in a spring training game in Florida. The best news in there is that Cam's guy Jose Berrios grew 2 inches during the offseason! One of the marks against him has been his relatively short stature, but the writer says he is now a legitimate 6'2", and has added some pop to his fastballs.
The Twins have so much potential superstar pitching depth in the minors. If most of them continue to progress, it will give us the flexibility to trade a couple for a guy who can lead us to a World Series, as we begin to become competitive in a couple years.
