Wolves fire rosas!!!
Re: Wolves fire rosas!!!
I love it!!! The DLO trade alone should justify it and on top of that the Culver fiasco and unwillingness to bring in a rim protecting big next to KAT. I'll give Rosas credit for finding a diamond in a rough with McDaniels and Edwards might prove to worth the pick overall, but hopefully now, DLO can be moved.
Re: Wolves fire rosas!!!
This is really surprising to say the least. Other than this out-of-the-blue allusion to dissension in the front office, I have a hard time understanding the timing of this. I've been as critical of Rosas as anyone on this board, but I think he's had a fairly good summer considering the limited assets and salary space he had to work with. On the other hand, Rosas was the reason the Wolves had minimal assets and salary space to work with. Even if there has been front office dissension for a while, there had to be a precipitating event to triggered the move right now.
I just hope this wasn't Glen Taylor's decision alone and that the new owners were fully on board. I just don't trust Glen's judgment on any major decision. I also hope the decision wasn't based on Gersson's decision so far to not pull the trigger on a Simmons deal. Every other franchise is playing the waiting game, so the collective wisdom around the League tells us that it would have been imprudent to pull the trigger on a Simmons deal up to this point. If the Wolves suddenly trade KAT or Edwards for Simmons, then we'll know that Gersson was ultimately fired for refusing to include either one in a deal. If that turns out to be the case, then I'm with Rosas. Then again, maybe Gersson has been pushing to give up too much for Simmons against the advise of other front office folks and contrary to the wishes of current ownership, including the new owners. Maybe the new owners did some digging and found out that Rosas could have gotten DLO for significantly less and that was the final straw. Maybe we'll learn more in the coming days or weeks, but right now I'm dumbfounded.

Jake Fisher of Bleacher Report:
"In wake of Gersson Rosas' departure, word has circulated among league sources since Summer League that incoming Minnesota Timberwolves owners Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez have communicated they are fond of Sixers general manager Elton Brand. A name to keep an eye on here."
Oh, no... Brand would be a significant step down from Rosas and perhaps only a hair above David Kahn. Brand was responsible for a number of truly questionable if not bad moves for the Sixers before Daryl Morey took over. Please stay away from him.

Fingers crossed for Sachin Gupta as that was my initial reaction to all of this. I don't like the timing whatsoever, but don't make a bad move even worse by replacing Gersson Rosas with the wrong guy. Gupta has already been on the radar for teams around the league and bringing him on board was a smart move by Rosas in all fairness. I'd like to see him take over.

Look, I don't want another rebuild. I want the team disbanded if they screw this up.
Re: Wolves fire rosas!!!
I was never a fan of Rosas, but I think he was better than Thibs or Kahn. Its funny that my happiest moments as a Wolves fan since KG left are when the GM is fired.

I'm totally with you on this Cam. I sure hope this story isn't true. If it is, then it will validate a point I've made repeatedly over the years - i.e., that the Wolves could actually do worse than Glen Taylor.
I'm actually disappointed by the decision to fire Rosas. He's made a couple of glaring mistakes, namely (1) trading up for Garland and then drafting Culver; and (2) signing Juancho to an inflated contract. I also believe he overpaid for DLO, but I don't consider that a glaring mistake because DLO is a talented player who could potentially help this team far more than Wiggins could. Otherwise, I'm impressed by the moves Gersson has made. Edwards clearly appears to have been the right pick at #1 last year and the McDaniels pick at #28 looks like it could be the steal of last year's draft. Bolmaro certainly has potential as well. Finding and signing Naz Reid and J-Mac were very good under-the-radar moves. I thought the Beasley deal was a good one and he ended up signing Beasley to a very reasonable deal. Since the DLO deal, I've been impressed by Gersson's restraint in avoiding the temptation to overpay for players in potential deals for John Collins, Ben Simmons or others. I thought the Beverley deal was excellent and the Prince deal was pretty good.
We're about to start the 2021-22 season with the team built by Rosas. And now the team surprisingly fires him. It just fuels the dysfunction narrative associated with this organization. I'd be first in line calling for Rosas to be fired next Spring if the team ended near the bottom of the standings again. But I just don't get the timing of this move.
