He's never had a negative VORP in his career. 7 current Wolves players have a negative VORP.

[Note: Was he worth the contract? No. Definitely not. But there have been more egregious contracts doled out in the NBA. He was a serviceable, better than average backup big who was paid more than he was worth.]

Yeah, this one's a puzzler for me. Memphis is in the playoff hunt, and last night they didn't even play their backup center (6'8" Xavier Tillman) in a close loss. Meanwhile Gorgui had the second best PER on the team, and was averaging per 36 16.8/9.5/2.8 with an eFG% of 62.5%...far better than anyone on the Wolves! The Lakers, Celtics or Nets are going to get a nice back-up center, and I'm happy for a good guy like G to finally get to play for a contender after it happens.

You're right that the Wolves don't need him. As you probably guessed, my comment was tongue-and-check. But I've always liked Gorgui. He's a good guy who always gives 100%. He can really help a contending team. So like you, I wish him the best and hope he ends up with a good team and maybe even a championship ring.

It's not huge news, but Gorgui Dieng signed with the Spurs. That's a good fit, in my opinion. I'm not surprised by how that shook out. Good for everyone.

Good for Gorgui! I agree it's a great fit for both player and team.

I agree. Abe mentioned yesterday there aren't many NBA players he would want to hang out with, and I get that. G is an exception though. He was a great clubhouse guy, a wonderful guy with the media, and a contributor in the community and in his native country. I always cheer for Gorgui, and getting together with Pop will be terrific for him.
