I actually think he was feeling pressured into DLO as there were rumors about KAT not happy in MN? He also probably saw DLO as the piece that got away from him in FA and having two "All-stars" would lead to a dynamic duo. Not just one reason for getting DLO but I would say keeping KAT happy was probably tops on the list of why he paid up for him.

Hernangomez on a two year deal with an option for the 3rd year after he came to MN and shot 42% from three, 7.3 boards and 12.9 ppg probably had Rosas thinking "I knew he was good" (small sample bias). With what was on the market and the need for PF on the roster he maybe didn't feel pressured into it but rather felt it was his best option.

Juancho, Culver & and draft capital for Collins is my prediction.

If the draft capital is all fully lottery protected, then I hope your prediction comes true.

I think why you are seeing a headline like this is because with the play in tournament a lot not teams are in the playoff hunt and won't be sellers at the deadline. Meaning there is only a small pool of players that can be traded for. Meaning the Wolves players, especially Rubio carry more value and might get not out of each other then expected.

Like Layman might be one of the few wings that could be acquired to help a playoff team.

Great point, kek. I hadn't thought of that. Unfortunately, that demand-supply dynamic also drives up the price of higher caliber players like Collins who the Wolves apparently covet.

It's just not a good time to be a buyer in the NBA trade market. And that's why, for example, it's hard to see how the Wolves end up getting Collins without grossly overpaying. The Hawks are certainly motivated to move Collins by the deadline because they could lose him for nothing as a free agent after the season. However, the Hawks are currently 7th in the Eastern Conference, which means they'll be reluctant to trade Collins for anyone who who won't help them this season. I doubt the Hawks would view a Ricky for Collins swap as a net positive for their stretch run.

When it comes to a possible deal for Collins, the question is this: who on the Wolves roster might the Hawks view as a net positive over Collins for THIS SEASON? Other than KAT, there are only two such players on the Wolves roster - DLO and Beasley. I don't know whether Atlanta would be interested in either of those two in exchange for Collins, but it's at least plausible because either one could arguably be a net plus for Atlanta down the stretch. My guess is that whey would swap Collins for Beasley. They'd benefit from his shooting and toughness and he'd fit well with Trae Young. Moreover, he's on a relatively team-friendly contract for several years. In my view, it would be a great deal for Atlanta. If the Wolves do a deal for Collins, it will be Beasley, I wouldn't do that deal for reasons I've given in other threads. My fear is that Rosas will give up Beasley AND other assets even though I think Atlanta would do the deal without getting other valuable asset just as I believe the Warriors would have done the DLO deal even if our pick had full lottery protection.

I do think Hawks recent surge (coensides with a coaching change) is going to make it hard for the Wolves to make a trade for Collins. Do think that trade Cam posted is a route that the Wolves would need to take acquire Collins. Because the Hawks need more win now type players also.

Kek - I agree that Cam's hypothetical deal might satisfy Atlanta if they're convinced that Gordon is healthy. But even then, I'm not sure they'd view Gordon and Okogie as a net gain for this season. On the other hand, perhaps they'd see it as a net wash or slight positive and do the deal knowing that they'll otherwise lose Collins as a free agent. But if I were Atlanta's GM, I wouldn't do that deal. Instead, I'd roll with Collins and the current Hawks roster through the end of the season. There might be sign-and-trade opportunities for Collins in the off season. And maybe they'll have a change of heart and decide to give Collins the max deal he wants.
