In HS there was a guy that would do that back to the basket flip all the time...but he would nearly always make them.

It would be interesting to see if the first 20 games or so of this rookie class is worse than prior rookie classes. I'm not sure what single metric to use - something like win shares may be. The hypothesis to be tested is that lack of summer league and regular training camp inhibit their early contributions. That makes intuitive sense, but it would be interesting to put it to the test.

I've thought the same thing. Obviously vets and some teams have an advantage with coaches players etc in place but it's a different season in general so a number of teams will be less prepared than usual. Also what if this class plays better? Will some guys even think screw college I'll just workout for a year?

Deni had a very good shooting game. He was 6 for 6 with three triples.

Malachi had 17 points on 7 of 12 shooting. Maybe another late gem for Toronto.

Has anyone mentioned before it's just pre-season ;-) . That said, Malachi has now had two terrific games. He's my early favorite for steal of the draft. Not sure how he's going to get enough minutes in Toronto though.

Good teams can be patient as young promising draft picks/players learn the system, get acclimated to the culture, learn and develop...

Bad teams with years/decades of ineptitude... well... it's different.

Edwards had another poor shooting night, but I liked his 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block. So his box score had some good stuff in it. I actually think Edwards played better than his box score. He was active, chasing down loose balls, defending aggressively and attacking the rim. His chase-down block was tremendous. So far in two preseason games, he looks intense and engaged. You could start to see the talent showing itself a bit in his second game.

I agree with KG4 that Malachi could end up the steal of the draft. Otherwise, I don't think any of the other rookies were particularly impressive today.
