What are the Wolves going to do with JMac? Will they sign him? If they do, who gets cut. Nowell? RHJ? I think they'll sign JMac and release Nowell. If they do, I think it will be a big mistake. On the other hand, I think this team needs what RHJ brings (size, defense, toughness, energy) and I'm a big fan of JMac who gives this team some much-needed quickness. This roster is so poorly constructed, it's hard to figure out the best move to make.

Once Rondae Hollis-Jefferson was brought on to the roster, the smart move would have been to waive Jarred Vanderbilt before his guarantee date and lock Jordan McLaughlin into a Naz Reid type contract. That date has since passed and now the Wolves have a difficult decision to make.

Speaking of Reid, he's another guy that could be waived without his money hitting the cap. However, that would not be a wise move, in my opinion. He can really play. There's a lot to like there as a cheap rotation big.

For me, Jaylen Nowell is the odd man out now, which is unfortunate considering he's a plenty talented kid with NBA ability. This roster is just so heavily invested into at the wings that he's the most logical cut in order to make room for J-Mac.

Maybe the Wolves are banking on being able to bring back J-Mac as their second two-way player? I think that would be kind of shitty towards McLaughlin, though.

Vanderbilt's guarantee date was November 28 and RHJ signed Dec 3. Regardless the Wolves were talking Vanderbilt up so they were going to keep him around.

At this point J-Mac is basically their 2nd 2-way player as he is taking up that spot because it's his qualifying offer. Idk if that's really what they want to do though. If they want to keep everyone on the roster which I think they probably do then that's the only path to do so. The Wolves obviously can't promise anything but they could be more generous on his next contract to help make up for what he lost as a 2-way player this season. If I was McLaughlin I certainly wouldn't be banking on anything like that though And he is obviously going for something player friendly. How long does he simply sit out though? At some point he will be losing money for every game he doesn't play on some sort of contract. It's certainly an unfortunate situation. Still a 2-way deal isn't a bad gig and you do get another year of NBA service time so even if he only signs a vet min deal next year that's a few hundred thousand more with that service time. Honesty if he come back this year as a 2-way player and plays like we think he is capable of...he will get some decent offers next offseason even as a RFA. There is basically no restrictions on 2-way players this year so I would guess he would be with the Wolves pretty much the entire season.

Good post, Monster. Signing JMac to another two-way would definitely be the best outcome for the Wolves. Of course, that outcome is only possible if no other team makes an offer. The Wolves can match any offer, but not with a two-way deal. Absent an offer from another team, JMac will eventually need to settle for a two-way deal. It seems unfair to JMac, but that would allow the Wolves to keep both RHJ and Nowell and I think that would be the best result for the Wolves. Otherwise, I agree with Cam that Nowell is likely the odd man out. That would be unfortunate.

According to Doogie, McLaughlin's 2-way offer expires today, although he would remain a restricted FA (not sure how that works!).

I would not be surprised if Davis is waived, McLaughlin is signed, and RHJ is kept. (I have read nothing to indicate this could happen, but I think Ed has been less than impressive...)

If it were up to me. Q's guy vanderbilt will be let go. ( deepest apologies to Q). RHJ is the best pf on the team now, and juancho and layman are both better than q's guy. I want jmac back and to keep nowell.

Thanks for that info.

So basically the Wolves can even sign a 2-way player to add to the roster soon and still keep the RFA rights to McLaughlin.

Jeff Diamond says on his podcast with Souhan that GM's often don't do anything till they have to. The Wolves don't have to do anything right now. What if in practice Or tonight's game someone gets hurt and is out for the season? They could just sign McLaughlin with the eventual free spot they would get with an injury exception. Maybe a trade materializes and it opens a spot. Until the Wolves need another PG due to an injury or some team makes an offer they don't have to do anything now.

This isn't idea of McLaughlin I'm sure he would rather be with the team and playing. If he hold strong till something happens the Wolves could still basically pay him enough in whatever contract they give him it would be worth waiting especially over just a 2-way deal.

Tim I've thought about waiving Davis too. I still think he is going to be an effective player and I would guess they would like to keep him. They have been seeing what Naz Reid can do in the offseason but they probably would like to see him get in a few practices maybe even some games before cutting Ed Davis loose. If they did and Naz sucks...well hopefully the other 2-way guy they sign might help? Yeah Ed Davis still has value to the roster. We should caution ourselves to make judgements to a vet like Davis based on 2 preseason games.

Some of the comments today from Ryan sure make it sound like RHJ is sticking with the team. The interview has not been posted online, yet.

Your trade comment is occurred to me as well. Rosas has quite the collection of guards and wings. He could use some of those chips in a trade for some decent frontcourt help without decimating the backcourt.

If I was Rosas unless a great deal came along I would want to see how some of these guys played and fit together before making a deal. Plus...the longer you wait the sooner you might be able to trade a guy you signed or acquired this offseason. I'd rather have a bunch of guards and wings than a bunch of Front court guys.

Also I'll just say here that I've seen a lot on various platforms about how badly the Knicks need shooting. That leads me to believe That the reports of an offer for Beasley from the Knicks would have happened. Part of why I thought we could get Beasley back cheaper was that there wasn't going to be that type of offer. It looks like that "1 team" would have very likely have been the Knicks. So it's possible they COULD be a team that is part of a deal down the line if they still value Beasley and the Wolves make some sort of bigger move. Also it's looking like I was wrong on DSJ and for that matter Frank'N.

RHJ was the best PF on the roster the second we signed him. It would be insane not to keep him.
