Three point shooting:

KAT is taking 3.9 per game.

- Brook Lopez never took more than 14 in any season. He's taking 5.9 per game!!!
- Marc Gasol never took more than 17 in any season. He's taking 3.5 per game.

The idea of what a "big guy" is or isn't... has changed. And if we think 3.9 attempts is too much, maybe we should be thankful we have the regime in place that we do. I can see KAT shooting nearly double that many attempts in other places. Right or wrong...

The other thing is that he's playing as the team's 4 and the guys you mentioned are all 5s. If anything, he should be taking more 3's!

I get what folks are saying though. I think it's going to take KAT another year or two to truly figure out how to put together everything offensively in a way that makes the most sense. He's almost too talented for his own good right now and gets scatterbrained at times.

Stretch 4s are so 2014...

I think what most people drool over with KAT is that he can (potentially) be a team's one "big" on the floor. That's what people see from Porzingis, too. In time... he'll be New York's stretch 5. Same with KAT here. That's why both are so highly regarded around the league.

And it's what we're seeing with Lopez and Gasol right now.

The thing about KAT though is that he really does have some advanced moves in the low post too - He can go over either shoulder with either hand (although he's best going left shoulder w/right hand) and he has the up and under footwork down pretty well too.

I think he will be eventually OK, as we have discussed multiple times, top notch scorers really don't hit their peak output until around Year 4 at the earliest and some - like DeRozan - don't hit their stride until year 6 or 7.

My concern is that he spends so much energy trying to be a hero on offense that he doesn't have enough energy/focus defensively. I think this is partially Thibs' fault.

His attempt numbers from 3 are fine. The problem comes in where he's on the perimeter trying to drive to the hole like a guard. That's when the hero ball, poor decision making, inefficient playing shows up. So it's more like he either needs to shoot it or move the ball out on the 3pt line and then reposition inside the arc. The defense is playing off Towns at the top of the arc because they know if he doesn't shoot he has a good chance of trying to drive 26ft into the teeth of the defense and make a mistake. Shoot it or move it.

I think you meant Randy Wittman/Kevin McHale. :)

The old basketball adage that goes "give it up, you'll get it back" applies very well to KAT's game right now.

I agree. I see him being able to reach 5 assists per game easy with his skill set. I do think the also falls in line with where he is setting up. The consensus seems to be that everyone wants him to keep the 3 in his bag of tricks but no one thinks his primary set ups should be outside the 3 point line. If only we had Adelman back ;)

Do you think we could we get that coach that had Joakim Noah getting 5 assists a game?
