Yeah, adding Dunn definitely raises some real questions about Tyus. At this point, I'd prefer to keep him and play him in the D League for stretches to keep his development coming. Usually, you want a third PG to be an old vet who doesn't mind sitting on the bench and doesn't need PT for development. But if Dunn develops quickly, Tyus could be the backup in case we do move Rubio in the next year.

If adding Tyus to a trade becomes necessary to make a deal to land another player who fits a need, I wouldn't be opposed to it. I like Tyus, but if things play out over the next year and if Rubio or Dunn accept being a backup to the other for the sake of winning, we might as well move the kid and go with the traditional vet as a third PG route. Tyus's probably still got a little value. It's possible, but I think doubtful, Dunn flames out. But if not, and [crosses fingers] if he becomes better than Rubio and Rubio accepts being a super-sub off the bench in a year or so, then yeah, Tyus is gone. I'd rather have Dunn and Rubio than Dunn and Tyus or Rubio and Tyus.

I want to keep Tyus for when Ricky is eventually moved (I'm guessing next off season when teams strike out on Westbrook and CP3) because I'm intrigued how Tyus is gonna play under Thibs given how Thibs always seemed to make guys like Robinson and DJ Augustine effective backup PG's. When Rose went down with injuries, those teams still won a lot of games with backup PG's starting so I think Tyus is in the mold of some of the backup PG's Thibs has helped make very successful over the years.

That's how I feel too, khans, and one of the reasons I'm liking the Dunn pick more and more. I'm reasonable confident that Dunn can become at least an average starting PG within a couple years, and I'm also reasonably confident Tyus will be an above average backup PG. So, I don't think we will need both Ricky and Kris for very long. Where I may differ from others here is that I'm open to which one we move. We have three potentially very high-scoring stars in KAT, Wig and Zach, and what we need most in a starting PG is someone who doesn't need to score and makes his teammates better. We know that is Ricky, and we hope it may be Dunn. But if Dunn doesn't dramatically improve his A/TO ratio but does attract some interest from other teams because of his toughness, defense, and ability to score, he may be the better option to trade in a year or two.

It's kinda funny how Thibs is known as a defensive guy but you can make an arguement he has a pretty positive effect on PGs and now he has 3 young ones to work with.

Let's consider this. What we heard for weeks is Thibs and Layden preferred using the pick to get a vet because they wanted to get to the playoffs. Maybe that was true idk but if it is trading Rubio to replace him with a rookie in Dunn as the starting PG makes pretty much zero sense and completely contrary to trying to win now. That's opposite what Utah did trading #12 to get George Hill as the guy to help them get to the playoffs and mentor Exum. We have been talking for months and years about having problems with the bench especially at the guard position and now all the talk is about breaking that up. It sorta doesn't make sense especially since Dunn hasn't even had a chance to wow us at SL (which doesn't matter all that much).
