Let's be honest...nothing is really gonna keep players from moving around. It kinda sucks but I also think it's not all bad either. I mean if AD wants out of NO is that really such a bad thing? I agree on the extra money portion of it on this contract, in a few years it would suck if we miss out on a decent free agent over a few million dollars. I wouldn't necessarily worry about Kat's next contract I believe the collective bargaining agreement will be renegotiated after the 22-23 season where rules may change when owners take a look at some of these contracts like Wall and Chris Paul, and Kat's deal goes through 23-24.

I think it's myopic to think that the long-term vitality of the league can survive star players picking-and-choosing among the same 5 or 6 cities.

Baseball is very uneven because of payroll. But the NBA has historically been at the forefront of incentivizing players to remain loyal, so it's a relatively new concept to the league. We'll see how much legs it has long-term as a minor/major league vibe may occur around the league.

I'm not suggesting players should be held hostage. But as fans of a franchise that is near the bottom of player popularity... things could be pretty bleak pretty quickly.

I think there's an easy solution. Give teams (orgs that draft players) even more financial power to keep that player. At least the player has a choice: Take A LOT more money to stay with the team, or move on to the next team.

A system where the player has very little reason to stay in MN (financially or otherwise)... is gonna see that player in LA or Miami or a Texas team pretty quickly.

Do you think that would be the case if he was playing in LA or NY or other top locale? Whether accurate or not... that stuff might matter. I agree with this completely, if you drafted the player, you should have a huge financial incentive to keep them. I think the designated player exemption should be to sign a player you drafted with as much money as you want to give him. The really ironic thing is that Glen doing this with Garnett was the initial fear that brought the cap into the league, killed our chances building around Garnett, and ultimately made Taylor one of the most ardent advocates of limiting the amount of revenue that the players could access.
