Do we even have a shooting coach?

Well FWIW Flip hired a shooting coach for the year he was the head coach. That coach basically decided he wasn't up for the daily grind of being an assistant and so he didn't stay around. When Thibs was hired they brought in the assistant shooting coach from the Spurs. I think he only lasted a year.

I don't know much about Vanderpools coaching ability, but what is clear is that he was well liked and respected in the Trailblazers organisation.

Funny how we praise assistant hires but during the season nobody ever mentions them...

Oddly enough, Vanderpool is a thousand times more qualified for the head coaching job than Saunders is. Thankful that we have him on board. His work in Portland has been depicted as exceptional.

I'd like to also point out that his title is associate head coach. My guess is, Rosa was stuck with Saunders as his head coach but he is putting vanderpool in there to be his guy that steers Saunders decisions with an elevated role.
