Seems like a good decision from both sides if that's the case, and Petersen is more informed than any of us on the matter. You don't keep guys around that can't do their job on a day-to-day basis, no matter how good they are at their individual job. Kander probably leaves regardless of who the new coach is, especially considering he really only came here because of Flip Saunders, God rest his soul.

As for the others that were let go, I don't see that as a big deal at all. This franchise has been incompetent for so long and part of the problem has been because the decision makers had the same ideas, same losing methodology. With Thibs, Layden, and co., there's finally some fresh minds and fresh ideas in the Wolves front office and faculty. Either you're buying in on the new change, which likely means winning, or you're not.

Good info Cam.

Based on what JimP said I don't have a problem with them letting Kander go. That tells me they want to find someone who will live here and be around the team, which is the most optimal.

Milt not returning, while not the end of the world, is quite disappointing for me. He was the one real link we had to Flip and his vision (as far as the type of players he sought). He was a big part in the drafting of most of our current young core and it would have been nice to see them keep him around in the front office. I hope that was more so Milt's decision, but I get the feeling it wasn't.

That's too bad on Arnie, but not entirely surprising since Flip had to coax him out here to begin with.

Cam, Take a break and come back refreshed. Your insights are valued here.

Wow, I was hoping we'd get through the draft before we gave pink slips to Newton, Babcock and some of the scouts. We still have our Euro scout Durisic and Booth to help Thibs and Layden, but we are a bit shorthanded. With a very deep draft, I am hoping we can get all the necessary intel on a wide group of prospects going into the draft in case we make trades for picks or are able to purchase picks.

The guy I wanted to keep the most was Kander, but that wasn't in the cards. He wanted to retire last year and came here for Flip. No reason to think he'd return with Flip gone.

I'm with Grey in wishing they had kept Milt Newton as a link to Flip's regime and as Flip's right hand guy in assembling the great young core we have. The others were guys you'd expect to be let go with a new regime in charge.

I'm also with Ricky in questioning the timing of these terminations. We're on the eve of the draft, free agency and the summer trading period. Unless they have replacements set to start right away, I would think they could and should have waited. And I don't understand retaining Adelman. But we'll see what happens over the next week.

What Addelman did they retain? David or his brother in the front office? I don't know much about either but I really was impressed with David during interviews and how he articulated his analysis of the game. Really impressive on Kfan and halftime interviews. Jim Pete would often commented how impressed he was with David after doing the half interview, I was also.

From what I understand RJ Adelman hasn't worked for the Wolves for at least a year he went back home to do something else it was his decision I can't remember the specifics.

Jon K said today on Twitter that David Adelman is a very bright basketball guy and relates very well to the players. Flip kept him around on a 2 year deal last year so I don't think it was just because he was Rick's kid. It seems he has his dad's eye for offense based on what Jim Pete has said but a little different personality. Lol. Honestly I think the best coached SL I've seen from the Wolves since I have been watching all these years was when David Adelman did it a couple years ago.

I'll also say this about Gates. I could see him staying also depending on who Thibs is or isn't able to bring in. When he came here he had a good reputation for working hard on developing players and grinding every day. He worked with Monte Williams and was regarded fairly highly in general and was even named on one of those someday could be head coach lists. He sounds like he could easily be a Thibs type guy.

Good info, Monster. I'm fine with keeping David Adelman based on Jon K's report and Jim Pete's comments. And I'd also be fine with keeping Gates. Sam Mitchell pretty much ignored his assistant coaches throughout every game. They all seemed really unhappy. I'll bet Thibs makes really good use of his assistants like all the top coaches do.
