The team isn't going anywhere as constructed with Towns. So this would be a great get out of jail free card for the wolves.

I don't think anybody that wins the lottery would do that trade though. 2 first round picks along with the number 1 overall pick would be too much to give up.

Totally agree with allday, trades in the NBA for star players are tough, I'd start over in a second with Cunningham, but the team likely with the first pick is in the same spot as the wolves, not in a position to win even with a player like Kat, so why would they trade Cunningham for him, most wouldn't in my opinion. Kat is over rated anyway, trade now and and when you can get the biggest haul.

I'll say that if we wouldn't have done the dlo trade, and still had our first next year, I would vote against doing this trade. As it is, I would do this trade, as long we could trade dlo in a separate deal without giving up a 1st. It sounds like this Cunningham guy is on the same level as Zion as far as prospects. Don't worry about the Stepian rule, it's a hypothetical (maybe the team has two 1sts in 2022). This is still a tough call, but I'm not convinced that kat will lead us to contending and the fact that he and Russell are connected is just the extra incentive to say yes. Put Cunningham with this team along with a total of 4 first round picks over the next two years and I'd pull the trigger.

Fun question, porkchop. I have to side with the "don't trade KAT" gang here...he's young with a unique skill set, so I'm not letting him go even for that haul.

But as we look at the draft the next couple years, I want to point out an interesting phenomenon that I noticed a couple days ago but didn't know where to post it. The #1 pick in nbadraft.net's mock draft for 2021 and 2022 both came from the same high school...little Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis! Jalen Suggs and Chet Holmgren are the real deal, boys. And as I look at the way Paige Bueckers is lighting it up at UConn, I wouldn't be surprised to see her go #1 in the WNBA down the line. Let's hear it for Minnesota basketball!

Kekgeek pointed this out a week or two ago. Minnesota has become a hotbed of sorts for prep players, yet its college and men's pro teams are 2nd and 3rd rate operations, respectively. I will say the Lynx have been very well coached, so there's that I guess.

It really is amazing. Minnesota has always produced great hockey talent. But after the run of big men ended in the early 80's with the likes of McHale, Peterson, and Breuer, Minnesota sucked in producing basketball players for a long time. It was really kind of a joke. Same for Wisconsin. This renaissance is really something.

Late to the party again...nice find, kekgeek!

Chet Holmgren is going to be frightening when he adds a few pounds to that frame of his. A true 7-footer with a 7'6" wingspan, and he handles the ball and shoots like a guard. He's been described by one scout as the best shot blocker he has ever seen at the HS level. He's going to look really good next to KAT and Ant in 2 years!

Props to both you and Kecker for staying on top of this.

This topic could probably be another thread, but the HS hoops in this state is great. I started causally following HS and going to games during the Royce White days at Hopkins and have been attending games since.

I go to a number of Wolves and gophers games every year, I'd choose a HS game everyday of the weekend over the Wolves or Gophers. The atmosphere of high school games is so much better, and the talent is so damn good.

I saw Holgren play his freshman year, no idea who he was, he didn't play much, someone I was sitting next to pointed out his day in the stands, he was an ex-gophers, he was videoing the game from the stands. Anyway, he was so damn thin, and still is but he was a tough SOB, his skill level was pretty noticeable also as a freshman.

Anyway, I highly recommend for basketball junkies on this board to start attending some HS games next year, we'll worth your time.

Any time you can give up a proven star player... for the chance that another prospect could possibly, hopefully, but doubtfully become as good as that player several years later... you gotta take it right?

[Note: I know I've written that 500 times before. But it'll always ring true for me.]
