Is now the right time to trade Culver?

I'm sure Thibs and the Knicks would be interested in Josh. Lottery protected 1st?

No shot, but I wouldn't blame this front office for trying. That might be a trade you attempt to pull off on draft night, though.

Culver still has upside and is a good defender. He's also pretty coachable.
I'm wouldn't give up on him. He's 21 and makes less mistakes than he did his rookie year.

I agree that Culver has more value than Okogie, but he kind of broke my faith in him having a bright future after coming back from an extended offseason and literally having the same broken mechanics on his outside shot. How this organization consistently finds guys like this and turns them into even worse shooters despite having the time and resources to invest (Okogie is in this group too) is beyond my ability to comprehend.

I wouldn't look to trade Culver or Okogie right now. In either case, we'd be selling low and we're not going to get a needle-moving asset in return. We're likely to get a better return for one or both of them as part of a package on the day of the next NBA draft. In the meantime, we have to hope that one or both of them turn the corner before the end of this season and develop a consistent perimeter jump shot. I wouldn't bet on it, but anything's possible.
In Culver's case, you have to hope he also develops something approaching reasonable consistency at the free-throw line. Unfortunately, Culver's issue remains fundamental shooting mechanics. If he wasn't able to fix it during the last extended offseason I have a hard time imagining him fixing it over the next 52 games this season.
Okogie's poor shooting is more of a mystery. His mechanics aren't terrible, he was a 38% 3-point shooter in both of his college seasons and he's always been a good free-throw shooter; yet his 3-point shooting has actually regressed this season. I'll add that Okogie isn't just a very good defender, he's a disruptive defender who makes winning plays on the defensive end. His poor perimeter shooting is a significant liability, but I can see him as a positive rotation player coming off the bench. He simply has too big a role on a terribly unbalanced roster.
Short of dealing either or both of these two, Ryan can't let playing time for either one keep Nowell or McDaniels out of the rotation - especially Nowell.
With all that said, if the Knicks would give us the rights to their 2021 1st round pick from Dallas straight up for Okogie or Culver, I'd consider it. Then I'd sign RHJ or another free agent big.

I love you Lip, I think Okogie could be in his 10th year in the league shooting under 30% from 3 and you will still bring up his 38% 3pt % in college (just giving you shit). Here is my thing with Okogie, there could be a couple things going on with him, 1st off he has sucked since returning from injury, Im not saying he was a stud before he got hurt but he was playing a lot better basketball and the injury could still be bothering him. In general I think I have been lower on Okogie then most of this board but I do think the current roster kills him. I don't think Okogie can play with any of Davis, Rubio, Vandy or Culver. We can't play multiple non shooters together it just sucks that a 3rd of the Wolves roster are pretty much a 0 when it comes to shooting. Okogie had struggles last year but he turned it on when he was the only non shooter in the Dlo, Beasley, Okogie, Hernangomez, Naz lineups and he was really good in those. It will be interesting to see what happens to Okogie, I think he is an above average on ball defender, good rebounded for his size but he might be the worst shooting guard in the NBA (He was dead last in catch and shoot 3s last year and he has been terrible this year). The question is how valuable is Okogie defense and does that out due how bad he is offensively. It will be interesting to see how it plays out because Mcdaniels is coming for those minutes and Culver isn't as good of a defender but he can put the ball on the ground more the Okogie. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.
