Yahoo.com might be the worst... two prominent features on Zion Williamson... and the most featured story about the Bucks is one that discusses GSW making the trade with MN to land Giannis down the line...
Meanwhile... Milwaukee (winners of 17 out of 19 and the #1 seed) vs. Toronto (winners of 17 out of 18 and the #2 seed) is not mentioned on TheRinger nor on the front page of ESPN.com... nor found on si.com.*
I'm generally not all that interested in player movement. But I really really really want Giannis to stay in Milwaukee. According to the national media, I'm literally the only person in the world who wants it.

Indeed, spot on.
I heard an NBA pundit on the radio the other day who said the league wants Giannis to stay in Milwaukee. They fear if he leaves it would be a dagger the small market franchises wouldn't be able to overcome. While listening to it, my thought was since when does the league care about the small market clubs? I'm sure they would love him in New York or Miami to keep those markets relevant. It just seemed like a really backwards take to me. The league listens to the media, and the media is campaigning for his departure on a daily basis.
The other take to it is that games aren't the top priority.
Player movement.
Big games from individual players.
Cool plays from players (Caruso's block on Ball was featured more prominently than the Bucks win)
Player fashion. Drama. Comments. Et al.
All of it is given more credibility (and clout) than actual wins and losses. And amid the constant onslaught of these types of stories being championed by the media... the media (and subsequently the fans) claim that the regular season is boring and too long and unnecessary.
Is this truly an organic take from fans... or as rabid consumers of all forms media... are we simply rehashing what we've been told and shown repeatedly?
FWIW Zion's first game vs LeBron seems like a pretty decent story to report on quite a bit. I get that other stuff is overlooked in other markets plenty (completely agree with much of the sentiment of this thread) but that's kind of a fun story and it was actually a pretty good game right? Also imo they can report on Alex Caruso all they want. :)
Also I want to say that while I think a lot of takes are spot on in this thread I want to acknowledge there are some terrific Lakers fans out there that know what they have and don't have and how lucky they are etc etc. One of my good friends is a Lakers fan and about as big of a basketball junky as you will find. Even if the Lakers have had a good run during his time he is deserving of good things if they come for his team. He is also a Raiders fan so...Lol
Also the Lakers were a train wreck franchise so much that they looked more like the Clippers than the Clippers did who not that long ago looked to be in a bit of trouble. Steve Balmer I think is going to be a competence advantage for the Clippers for quite a while. There are plenty of other nba teams I would cheer for over the Lakers that's for sure. Go Bucks.
I guess. I still care about who won or lost... more than what they wore.
I have yet to hear the score of the Lakers vs. Pelicans game. Even Zach Lowe seemed to be caught up in it on his postgame podcast with Hollinger.
Even after listening to the first few minutes of that... I didn't know the score.
<<< I just looked up the boxscore >>>
They did mention James played well. Nothing about Holiday or Davis struggling. Nothing about Williamson living on the free throw line (19 attempts).
Heck, JJ Redick didn't even take a shot. Considering he's a 45% shooter on three pointers... and averages 15 ppg... that's sorta big, right? At least to mention at some point?
I realize I'm in the minority in caring more about basketball stuff than non-basketball stuff among today's NBA fans.

Wait you didn't tell me what they wore. Now I'm gonna have to go find out...wait I didn't even know that was what anyone was talking about. Lol honestly I've hardly been on twitter or reading many articles on sports lately. I didn't listen to any of the usual podcasts either. I've done other things. I've looked up stuff once there was something that happened...I don't really miss a lot of the other stuff. I do have some podcasts I want to catch up on but I'm in no hurry.

More to this point. Colin Cowherd did a 6 minute segment yesterday on his show about Wiggins is going to be traded along with the warriors 1st and the wolves 1st for Giannis.
It's just funny. That Wiggins turned from worst contact in the NBA and the national media thinks he sucks to a main piece in a Giannis trade in 2 weeks. Also Wiggins last game after people like Simmons was saying he is a positive asset now had 8 pts 10 rebs 4 assists on 3-17 shooting and team lost by 20ish
Giannis might leave Milwaukee. But he won't be traded.
Milwaukee will ride Giannis to a championship or bust. As they should. Rebuilding with draft picks would be a long haul (as we know)... just for the slim chance they'd ever be able to get back to that position of competing for a title again.
Just go for it. They'll be able to fall back on "pity" after losing Giannis anyway to help cushion the fall.

Your riding it out theory (which I completely agree with) also has the option of a sign and trade scenario too where they get something worthwhile back. I mean To some extent what's the difference between the Bucks having him from the start and trading for him to try and win a championship? If you think there is a good chance of winning a title you aren't trading him. Even if the Raptors sucked after winning the title not many people would have been upset about the Leonard trade because they won it all. Surprise (kinda) Toronto is still pretty good so the fan base is still happy I would imagine.

I imagine the Toronto fanbase is ecstatic.
1) I think Leonard leaving was ALWAYS in play. He was a fairly well-known rental.
2) They've developed a culture in Toronto... it's a team (organization) of professionals and that eases transitions.

At some point we shouldn't give a shit about what guys like Cowherd say. I used to like his show most of the time when he took over the spot that Kornheiser had on ESPN but I think he was going to the dark side even before he left ESPN and now it seems like he just says crap pretty often. I'm done caring about these type of guys. Just sayin.
I'm watching the Lakers-Pelicans game. Great game. And wow, the Pelicans are fun to watch. They are loaded with talent in Ball, Ingram, Holiday and Zion. The only thing that can stop Zion from ending up in the Basketball Hall of Fame would be physical breakdown under the weight of his huge body. He's a joy to watch.

Ill be there next Sunday for Wolves vs Zion. I am so excited to watch Zion play live. Might be the last time to get to watch Zion play without having to give up an arm and a leg to get lower deck tickets.
