We're getting Butler, Markkanen, or Smith Jr for sure

I have no faith this year will be any different. With vet you have a pretty good idea of what you are getting before the trade.

To be fair... several different men were making those picks during that decade.

So I don't know why something David Kahn did should reflect on what Thibs might do.

I do understand the veteran angle...

Thibs chose Dunn, who in my opinion contributes to the teams success as much as Derrick Williams and Wesley Johnson.

Maybe. Eventually. It's been one season... to write off every subsequent Thibs draft as irrelevant is a bit myopic though.

To be fair it was the worst draft class in many years, you could say that about a lot of last year's picks

My original point is that the pick likely has more value today than it will in a year. The vet you trade it for is more likely to be equally valuable a year from now. if the Wolves had San Antonio's history of finding diamonds I might feel differently

Getting a vet and having them have about the same value isn't always the case esp silly with guys on such short contracts. How many vets that were considered valuable players are considered less valued at this time than they were a year ago. I bet there is a pretty significant list. Just sayin.

Also if this franchise can't draft and find some gems or at least useful players...fold it up and find another franchise I guess. I'm tired of paying up one way or another for players other teams have acquired. We need to expect to some extent these guys can do their jobs well.

My brain likes the trade down if Jackson or Isaac are off the board, but my heart tells me we might regret picking and trading Dennis Smith. There are all sorts of logical reasons to stay away from that guy, but then you watch his game tape and man, it's tough not to feel like a high level penetrating, attacking PG like that is a key component in today's NBA. He could end up being a star. But if we could flip him for Collins and can actually also add a shot at a guy like Bell or Bolden or Hart or Thornwell in the second round, then I'd also probably feel good.

I wonder if there isn't a chance that a guy projected in the top 6 right now falls to us. Those top pick teams don't really need guards other than the Sixers, Lakers, and Kings, but Monk and Smith are really good enough that they might have impressed somebody, or a trade of one of those top picks could throw a real wild card into the mix. I wouldn't be completely surprised to see us in a somewhat unexpected position of getting to pick one of those top 6 guys, probably Isaac, maybe Tatum, who knows?

Players my head likes:
Josh Jackson
Fox
Isaac
Z. Collins
J. Collins
Derrick White (if we trade Rubio)

Players my heart likes:
Fox
Monk
Smith
Anunoby

Man, I'm exCITED!!!

Too early to tee up the 2018 thread?

LOL, go look at when the 2017 draft thread was teed up....depressing.

I was going to swear off the lottery this year, but I got sucked in.

Note to self: Whoever we draft will suck in year 1 and will likely end up a career disappointment. Rinse. Repeat.
