Speaking of the draft, it's going to become more important than ever since you need that cheap pipeline of talent to backfill guys you lose to ridiculous free agent offers.
I just don't see any way to keep Dieng or Shabazz beyond their rookie deals given the stupid-shit numbers we're seeing thrown around and the need to save up for KAT/Wiggins/LaVine. Dieng especially seems like a guy someone could throw damn near $20M per year at.

That's the one from the Wes trade. That one turned into two 2nd round picks one this year and one next year.
Oh, that's good news. I thought there might be a stipulation like that but wasn't sure what pick it was attached to. So we only owe the Payne #1 at this point. And doesn't that one have something similar attached to it?
Yep although I would assume we give up that compensation as a first round pick or something has gone horribly wrong for a few years.
Via basketball insiders
2018 -- Owe first-round pick (lottery protected through 2020, otherwise converts to 2020 and 2021 second-rounders) to Atlanta Hawks (Adreian Payne).
Yeah, that's a first rounder I WANT to give up in 2018
Yep Atlanta is gonna love getting pick #28. :)

Nice! I didn't realize the pick we owed Atlanta was next year. Bonus

Like I said before less see how RFA plays out the rest of this offseason.
Q we always like to have those draft picks don't we? :) I hope Layden and Thibs value some of those 2nd rounders more. Maybe they can do more of that Spurs type thing where they uncover guys people let go and turn them into something worthwhile. The hot name for that right now is Clarke.
Here is another angle of adding cheaper talent in case Dieng becomes to expensive. Dubs could come over next year and he could be a nice complimentary guy especially if Aldrich can be a legit solid rotation player. Dubs will get a chunk of money but I don't think any euro guy will be able to command top dollar like a typical FA would. Sorry a bit off topic but he is someone to keep in mind either adding to the roster or possibly moving in a trade. I'd prefer to add him to the roster partly because I like his skill set but also because it's possible his contract will be a bit of a bargain. He could end up not being any good also and we wish he was gone but I like his chances.

That's a good point Monster on Dubs. It's good to have him in the pipeline and I'm sure we'd get the Euro-discount on any contract we sign with him.
Yeah, one of the things that bugged me with our front offices of the past is the frittering away of 2nd round picks. The latest example was Flip's trading of three 2nds for Tyus Jones. I just thought that was too steep of a price to pay.

I had less issues with giving up those picks for a guy that they wanted but then they just couldn't find ANYONE in other drafts worth taking? Weird. I know it's tough if you don't think they will make a roster and Flip did draft Dubs and Lorenzo Brown at least is a legit fringe guy* so that's saying something I guess. Now because of finally paying the Wes deal and trading away a future pick to get Tyus we are a bit low on those picks. Oh well.
* I had a bit of a Facebook conversation with a guy I went to college with who is a Pistons fan. It was a small college so I knew about everyone but I know him best from play with him on the same team one year of interamutal basketball and he was a heck of a stretch 4! Anyway I mentioned I liked what SVG was doing with the Pistons etc and then noticed they had Lorenzo Brown on the roster. I told my friend I always pulled for Brown and he could be a useful player if he was on the right team even with his flaws. He agreed and said he just needs to shoot better and he would be a nice player. I said sometimes Brown plays it too safe and needs to be more confident. With Detroit having Ish Smith as a backup PG so Brown wouldn't be relied on for that high of a role he seems like a solid versatile player and if he ever gets on the floor it would seem he would get some wide open looks with the behemoths the Pistons employ. It sounds like Brown is doing really well with the team in SL and he spend a lot of his season last year playing on their d-league team so he will be familiar with their system.

Lydon is there for us at 21! Lock up this thread, bleed...our work is done here.
Not even close. We need to rank at least 30 players for next years draft when we pick 30th.

NBADRAFT.NET has us taking Jonathan Isaac.
NBA Comparison: Rashard Lewis
Measured 6'10'' in shoes, with a 7'0'' wingspan and 185 lbs at the 2015 Nike Basketball Academy
http://www.nbadraft.net/players/jonathan-isaac
My guy is telling me this will be a solid draft class. Not as much hype as past years, but just be a a lot of solid players in it. I have nothing to base that off, but that is what my gut says. I am surprised Amir Coffey is not even on the board.
