The NBA is following the NFL model... stay relevant 24/7/365...
Very very few of the rumors have any merit. But that's not the point. We're talking about the NBA and that's all that matters.

In today's PG-heavy + promise of hope + shooting is key NBA... Rubio isn't fetching a #9 by himself.
What is the Mavericks cap situation? Are they going to be able to sign one of the big 3 point guards if they don't trade for Ricky? Will Frank Ntilikinininina be able to do the things Ricky cant? Could the Mavs afford to turn a 9 plus salary for Rubio deal down? Thankfully I think Thibs would have a hard line with this one as well.

By what I am understanding is that Dallas would be interested in Rubio. But this Nkilitina kid is rumored to be worth them possibly trading up with Minnesota to get him before NY does. If so, what could Dallas offer to move up from 9 to 7 since it sounds like The Twolves like Markk and Dennis Smith.

Given the players that are typically drafted at #9, I'd say Rubio would be a very solid get for #9. I doubt the Wolves say yes to that one, unless Thibs is dying to get rid of Ricky.

I agree. And I can say with assurance that Thibs is NOT dying to get rid of Ricky.

And NOBODY is offering 9 for Ricky.

If anybody knows about the allure about the "promise of hope" it should be Wolves fans.
Rubio is a largely plateau type of player with obvious strengths... and obvious weaknesses. Front offices talk themselves into prospects all the time. More importantly, prospects can be easier to placate a fanbase with than a seasoned guy largely known around the league for the one glaring hole in his game... at more than 2x as much money.
In what's considered a pretty deep lottery draft class... Rubio isn't getting a top 10 pick in return.
[Note: A lot of it is in the eye of the beholder. I'm pretty certain many teams wouldn't really want Rubio on their team... just for style reasons. Other teams who value analytics and pass-first veterans... see his value. I've been saying for years that he's one of the league's most polarizing players as far as how his value is perceived.]

Abe, Polarizing is a poor term to use IMO when it comes to how league front offices view Rubio. I think what is a more appropriate term is "unique fit", meaning there are only a handful of teams he can truly fit on where his skills would be valuable, whereas there are other teams he's a non-starter on because they need their PG position to be a lead guard/scoring type. That's a fit issue, not a difference of opinion in a player's strengths/weaknesses.
For example, I wonder how he'd look on the Pelicans where they have two high-scoring bigs. Or San Antonio where they have Kawhi, Aldridge, and Gasol. Or Minnesota where they have KAT, Wiggins, and LaVine :)

Meh. Seems like semantics.
Either way, it's two largely contrasting groups. Some wouldn't even look in his direction. Some see his value. Seem polarizing to me.
It wasn't meant to be disparaging. Simply a summary of the situation.
Re: What's wrong with you people. Get your Rubio trade fix here!
Rubio is totally polarizing, because every team would rather have players at all positions be able to make shots. There is variance to how much the other aspects of his game contributes to winning. Many of these things are "intangibles", which are by nature prone to polarizing conversations. Yes many talented teams could theoretically overcome his deficiencies. Despite our offensive successes last year, I am not sure we can. Even though we had great offensive highs, we were totally inconsistent, with dips often in crunch time when it mattered most. Our offensive rating was 10th for the regular season, but in the 4th quarter we were 24th in the league. There are still problems with our offense, that a pg who could get a basket every once and a while may really help with.
