We got him!!!! Isaiah Canaan on a 10 day deal!!! Where are the jokes about bringing in all the former Philly guys? Geez...
Ok in all seriousness I do remember before last season wolfson said that Taj and Jimmy spoke up for Canaan as an option for that last roster spot of a vet PG. We ended up with Aaron Brooks which was a better move. Covington played with him in Philly. He isn't really a true PG but has no problem jacking up 3's which is a nice thing. I've always kinda liked him in a way. He SEEMS to play tough and stuff but the numbers often don't really make him look to be all that great. Nobody is gonna be awesome it's nice to have someone that can at least...you hope to have some level of comptetance out there. He is a guy you can play with Wiggins handling the ball. It seems like Canaan is sort of a Brewer type that really lights it up the first few days with their first team...maybe that's not true but it wouldn't hurt this time! :)

I think terrells 45 days are up, so maybe he gets sent back down or released and canaan is taking that roster spot for 10 days.

I doubt Terrell's days are up (I'd be curious to hear otherwise though) but I'd guess you are right in that is part of the consideration of signing someone now. I'd guess C.J. Williams has used a chunk of days also (he was with the team quite a bit earlier in the season) so it would make sense to add someone and maybe even keep them down in case they are needed later. D like to see Terrell stay up if the 45 days aren't piling up. I wish there was someone tracking these things...which is the same thing I say at pickup ball when nobody really knows that the score is. lol

I know I've been posting that I don't see the Wolves making the playoffs this season. But the acquisition of Canaan has caused me to rethink my assessment. This is a game-changing move for the Wolves. He's a career 35% 3-point shooter who hits 37% of his FGs. At age 28, he's in his prime. He can take replace the 23-year old Terrell as our backup PG. No sense trying to develop a young player with potential when you can get a veteran like Canaan with his production and upside. Thibodeau is gone, but the savvy Scott Layden remains.

So they are just supposed to ride into these games with 2 ball handlers one in Terrell who is an undrafted rookie FA on a 2 way deal that's been playing in the G-league putting up the eye popping numbers of 38% FG 28.5% from 3? They have an open roster spot why not add someone especially in case Bayless got hurt during a game?

Isaiah Canaan is like a poor man's Jerryd Bayless.
I wish I was being facetious...

Then add someone in his early 20s. We're not going to make the playoffs, period, exclamation point. I don't care how bad Terrell's numbers have been. Canaan's numbers as a veteran (37% FG shooting) aren't eye-popping either. And he won't make a meaningful difference because this team isn't making the playoffs. Maybe his presence will add a win or two, in which case he'll hurt our lottery position. But it's highly likely he has no impact at all on the outcome of games.
Just having Canaan here as a body in case Terrell or Bayless gets hurt is ok I guess. But he shouldn't displace any of Terrell's minutes because at age 23 Terrell at least has some chance of improveing. And if we need another PG body, then why not bring in a younger FA who at least has some chance of developing? A common refrain on this Board is that the Wolves don't develop young players. Well, you won't develop young talent if you don't find and play young talent. Adding a 28-year old poor man's Bayless makes no sense for this team given its current situation. Don't get me wrong - in the scheme of things it's not a huge deal. It's just a small piece of a much bigger whole -- a clueless organization.

To be fair, it's only a 10-day contract, right?
The Wolves will know a lot more about the future by the time that is up. If the Wolves become sellers... I assume that will include Canaan. They'll still have nearly 30 games to go young.
And they may have more holes on the roster to fill, too.
[Note: But as long as they're TRYING to stay in the playoff hunt, I think Canaan makes sense, even if he's the very definition of "meh."]

Signing Canaan tells me that they might hold out teague, rose, and tyus until after the all star break.
As bad as we need a pg,we need wing help too. Cov will probably be held out until after the as break as well.

I read this the same way, cc...although I think Rose (who practiced yesterday) may come back before the break. If he does, Ryan can play him at the 2 and reduce Josh's minutes (I continue to think every shot Josh takes is one that KAT and Wig don't take), and roll with Canaan and Bayless at PG. Not ideal, but the best we can hope for at the present time.
