Gobert, Mitchell, and Ingles are the ones that drive that Utah team. I actually rank Ingles higher than RoCo since he can handle the ball and pass along with great shooting and defense. He is often the guy running high PnRs for Utah, something we rarely ask (or want) RoCo doing.

Rubio has been a net plus for Utah, but as long as those other three guys are playing, his presence or lack thereof doesn't make a huge impact because Ingles and Mitchell are very good ball handlers, defenders, and passers themselves. They just carry more of the facilitation load when Rubio is out.

I wouldn't be surprised if Utah makes Mitchell their full-time starting PG next year and looks to sign an ace shooter at SG. Then bring Exum off the bench.

(by the way, Rubio is scoring more than Teague AND has a similar TS%. I thought Thibs signed Teague because he wanted more of a scoring PG!? So much for that.)

I get the Ingles love out there because he is such a character, but I only think he is clearly better than Rob in two categories: durability and distribution. Covington is a better 3-point shooter, free thrower, rebounder and defender by any measure that I see. I would also put RoCo far ahead of Ingles in terms of importance to team...I think losing RoCo has a much worse effect on the Wolves than losing Ingles would be for Utah.

But the fact that Joe will likely play in both key games coming up and Rob won't weakens my argument for Rob a lot...durability might swing the decision his way.

To be fair...

Covington is a better three point shooter this year (barely). 37.8% (career high) vs. 36.2%. But Ingles shot 44% in each of the two previous seasons.

I'll add that Ingles averaged 4.8 assists a game last year. This year he is averaging 5. I was a little surprised at those numbers. I'd guess he is pretty important to what the Jazz do and have done. I'd love to have either guy on my team. Ingles got a pretty nice payday and there was legit concern about whether or not he was gonna he worth it. He has been even though he doesn't put up wow numbers. Also I just looked it up his salary goes down the next 2 years. If he stays healthy he is gonna be a bargain and make less than Covington who will be a value contract assuming he stays healthy even in line with his usual amount of missed games.

Robert Covington is great doing what he does... off the ball. He works well as a complementary piece.
Joe Ingles can play a version of that type of game... or can do more with the ball in his hands.

Both guys are legit. Which one you want might depend on the needs of the team. But both battle and compete. It's not surprising that Roco is popular... and Ingles is a fan favorite...

If teague opts out (which I doubt), rubio makes sense as the pg we look in the offseason.

I thought Rubio was to blame for all of the Wolves losing (not you crazy idk)? After he was booed and beat down by the fans he is certainly not coming back here.

The same type of fans blamed KG, then Love and now KAT. No Rubio wasn't in that same league (of course, duh), but he wasn't the main problem with the Wolves. Teague certainly hasn't made this team a contender has he?

Mmmmm, I actually think more fans liked him than not. And the realistic ones recognized his flaws, but felt he wasn't the albatross that his biggest detractors made him out to be. Thibs was the guy that chafed him I think (shocking, I know).

As for his fit with our current roster, he's not ideal, but he's not horrible either....in other words, not much different than Teague! I wonder how much he'll command in the open market this offseason?

Always liked rubio and understood his flaws as a shooter, but hes a better version of tyus. I always thought he fit well with kat and wiggins, on and off the court. Teague talked about guys not hanging out together, but those guys did. Rubio even had these guys over to Spain in the summer. I felt rubio played that big brother role for them.

Rubio
Wiggs
Cov
Saric
Kat

I think it was mostly a thibs issue with rubio. He wanted a very specific type of pg regardless of how the pieces fit around that pg.
