NBA Style of Play

Heh, yes, good old LST used to regale us in his stories of watching Elgin Baylor play as a Laker. Whoa!

The game is evolving. The game that was played X amount of years ago was ugly too in many ways. That's what made watching guys like Stockton and Malone so beautiful to watch. I only used that one because it's pretty hard to argue with. :) I think what makes the "pace and space" thing annoying is when it's put forth in some sort of narrative that it's the ONLY way to play. That's not true either.

Anyway when a game evolves there is some ugliness to it. I also think the way the game has evolved does and will open up more skill to be shown by various players as time goes on. I don't always love the jack up the 3's thing either BUT it also makes a ton of sense to some extent for a few reasons. I'll be honest though if this was in my younger days and you gave me a wide open midrange FT line jumper I'd take that all day and laugh when I made over 50% of them. :) There will always be room for elements of basketball that work. James Harden can be annoying to watch but he is also a Really good passer.

Personally I think the games got lazy and selfish. Dribbling the ball a bunch and setting one screen to settle for threes all game takes away from the game and how it was intended to be played.

No , becuz the ball got dumped into the post than thrown back out if the shot wasn't there all the while perimeter players were establishing different positions on the court.

I ran into LST and his wife in Vegas during this year's Summer League. Great people! LST isn't posting, but he's reading our posts from time to time. Maybe he'll return some day.
