Interestingly, Khyri Thomas ended up at the top of my list. The following three stats of his from this past season jump out at me: (1) 53.8% FG shooting on a fairly decent volume of 10.4 shots per game; (2) 41% 3-point shooting on a decent volume of 4.6 shots per game; and (3) 1.7 steals per game, which is not elite, but a good sign that he's active defensively. I like his wide wing span, which negates the rap on him being "undersized."
I also like Aaron Holiday, even though he's a PG, which is arguably not a priority position for us. He's a pure shooter. The stats that jump out at me are his47.1% FG shooting on a high 14 shot per game volume,and his 43% 3-point shooting on a very nice 6.2 volume. I also like that he's improved in each of his three seasons, yet has always been a plus 40% three-point shooter.
A few others I like based on their stats and what I've read: Melvin Frazier, Chandler Hutchinson, Zhaire Smith and Caleb Martin. I also like Gary Trent Jr. A few others I'm interested in, more likely in the second round are Josh Okogie, Cody Martin, Jalen HUdson and Jacob Evans.
If Robert Thomas somehow fell to #20 I'd grab him in a heartbeat. I'd even consider trading up to get him. I like him after his freshman year when he was on the fence and then decided to stay in school for his sophomore season. The guy had 2.4 blocks and 9.2 rebounds in only 24 minutes per game. He has long arms, a great motor and is a beast. He'd give us the defensive intimidator we need to help KAT inside.

What strikes me about Khyri Thomas is he seems like sort of a Kris's Dunn type defensively and Q score type guy but withthe skillset this team needs as a shooter. He seems a bit stronger than Dunn but not quite the athlete Dunn is. It's so early in the process but I already feel like that would be a good pick for the Wolves and I think he is a guy that could come in and help pretty quickly which is a nice bonus.

I agree. If the draft were tomorrow and all the above except Robert Thomas were available, I'd take Khyri Thomas. I like the Dunn comparison, but the good news is that Khyri can shoot. I'd be tempted to take Holiday instead of Khyri, but I'd still take Khyri. Thankfully, the draft isn't tomorrow so there's a lot to learn between now and June. I just hope our front office gets it right. So far in it's 30-year history, I'd count the following as the only good 1st round picks:

Yes, Kevin Love should be on my list. Since we picked Ray Allen as part of a predetermined trade for Marbury, I'd include Marbury rather than Ray Allen on the list with Love. I'd still consider Marbury a good pick because he was great while here and it was hard to see his mental implosion on the horizon. But again, no successes outside the top 10 except for LaVine in nearly 30 years.

I wasn't gonna quibble with your list because I thought you were being pretty selective. I'll say that the outside of the top 10 picks...a few months ago I think we would say the Dieng pick was a success in that we got a legit rotation player at that point in the draft even if there were better players. The Tyus Jones pick looks plenty solid which was a trade up to get that pick. Flip wasn't perfect but he at least made some picks that were very good to at least worthwhile players. He also took a flyer on Dubs who likely will never come over to the NBA (just read an article that said he wanted to stay with his team forever) but is clearly a guy that has plenty of talent. I'd wonder if his draft rights could be a sweetener to get a deal done with a team really looking to rebuild and may actually pay him and actually give him a role big enough he would consider coming over.
Anywho your point still stands the bar was low for draft success and its still dubious because there isn't enough info from a Thibs and Layden to make you feel particularly strong about their ability to draft the right guy.
