I don't mind taking on Whiteside to get Richardson. At least Whiteside can play at a high level if properly motivated and if motivation is lacking, we drop him in two years. Richardson is on a sweet sweet deal and has nice upside. Honestly, even if we dont get a draft pick back, I'd do a Butler, Dieng for Whiteside, Richardson deal.

I've seen Sixers fans post Covington and Saric for Butler and I'd be all over that one too even without any picks back.

I'm hoping we also talk to Washington as Porter would be a nice fit here and he's relatively young.

I agree with on the value of potential stars relative to proven stars as a general matter. I'm just speculating that the Grizzlies are in a position where they'd put a higher value on a proven star. Just a hunch on my part.

One of the great things about KAT is that his versatility. That versatility allows the Wolves to take different approaches on what types of players to pair him with. One approach, as you suggest, is to surround him with versatile shooters. That strikes me as the best approach. But I think it would be almost as good to pair him with a great shot-blocking defensive big, which would free up KAT to take better advantage of his three-point shooting prowess and his overall skill set, which we saw on display when he won the allstar skills competition two ears ago. For example, I'd love to pair him with Rudy Gobert. Had the Wolves picked Gobert instead of selling their pick a few years back, we might actually have that pairing now.

Jackson would be perfect in that sense that he could offer the best from both sides. He is decent outside shooter and could be still that rim protecting big to play next to KAT.

I personally think that Sixers deal would be by far the best of the deals in trade poll. Richardson is three years younger and might have more offensive potential but Covington is already much better defender than he is. Covington is also really high volume three point shooter which increases his overall efficiency. Covington had even higher TS% than Richardson even tough Richardson is much more versatile scorer.

Richardson is plus defender but he isn't elite like Covington. Covington is one of two players that have ranked in top5 in DRP in both last two seasons.(another is Gobert) He has also much more length than Richardson, so he would be able to also play some small ball 4. Even tough both players have similar length contracts, Richardson has last year as player option which makes Covington's contract more team friendly.

But main reason why I would take Sixers deal instead of either of Miami deals, is that in Sixers deal Minnesota would not need to take back any headcase with big contract (Whiteside or Waiters). I also think that there would be small chance that Sixers 2019 first rounder could be decent if both Embiid and Butler would miss a lot of games.

Good analysis, Mikke.

He is a vet so he would have to agree to go to Iowa but your post got me thinking...

Has anyone tried calling Butler with the number he gave out last year when he was introduced at MOA?

https://www.twincities.com/2017/06/29/jimmy-butler-gives-out-his-phone-number-to-his-haters/

"Everybody is entitled to their opinion," he said. "That being said, my phone is in my back pocket right now. Whoever has anything to say to me, feel free: 773-899-6071."

Yes, that is Butler's actual phone number. It went straight to voicemail on Thursday afternoon with the following outgoing message: "Jimmy Butler. Sorry I couldn't get to the phone, but leave your name and number, and I'll hit you back. If you've got any beef, definitely leave a message."

Not a fan of any of the deals in the poll. I would, however, do a Saric + Covington for Butler trade if it came about. Saric is an ideal frontcourt pairing for Towns.

I'd do that deal in a heartbeat. But I don't think it's realistic to expect that the Sixers would give us both Covington and Saric. Actually, I don't think they'll deal Saric in any sort of package for Butler. I hope I'm wrong and that Thibodeau pursues it.
