Front Office and Taylor Unified on Plan to Move Butler
Re: Front Office and Taylor Unified on Plan to Move Butler
I think Thibs knows he's not long for this job. Maybe his willingness to go along with ownership on this one is an attempt to show potential other suitors he's not as hardheaded as this go around has portrayed him to be. In the interest of self preservation for future employment.

Wow. Well, I'd believe Woj before I'd believe the Strib. Glen owns the Strib, so perhaps he had the story of unity planted there to create an outward appearance of internal cohesion. But Woj is a very accurate, highly respected NBA reporter.

He didn't do his job. He createf this issue. He is an eyesore. You fire him immediately and try your best to sort it out.
I agree

I think it's more about the new Wolves beat writer maybe not getting things quite how they are*. I agree it doesn't seem clear Thibs is specifically on board yet which...is bizzarre. Jon K just said on Twitter it will be interesting of this is a negotiaon stratagy or just flat out insubordination. I don't think there is or has ever been any indication Glen Taylor would mess with reporting. Souhan and a few other people that work for or have worked for has praised the Star Tribune for being a good place to work and having lots of resources to do their job. Souhan has specifically mentioned how there has never been a time he feels like Glen or someone from the Wolves has interfered because Glen owns the paper. It seems that Glen has done well with the Star Tribune based on what the sports writers claim.
*People must really like Zgoda as a person...or felt sorry for him being the Wolves beat writer for all the crappy years be cause he has gotten some love the last few weeks. It will be interesting to see how he does with his new role.

Also I don't get how this isn't clearly insubordination as John K hints that it could still be a ploy to drive up price. It's not hard for Thibs and Layden to let Glen know if it's a negotiating tactic. Glen wouldn't be involved in this at all if he thought his front office would actually do what he's demanding. You'd have to be the all-time dumbest front office to keep your owner out of the loop and let him drive down deals because he's showing desperation to trade a guy.

Thibs isn't smart enough for this to be a negotiating tactic.

I might put it differently. It's not in Thibodeau's nature to be strategic or tactical. Moreover, Thibodeau's judgment appears to be seriously impaired when it comes to Jimmy Butler -- so impaired that he wouldn't acknowledge and deal with the internal issues surrounding Butler over the past 4+ months. Thibodeau is pathologically stubborn and unable to work with others. It was his MO in Chicago and it's been the same story here. Now it's coming to a head as a desperate Thibodeau, rocked by his darling Jimmy's rebuf, engages in brazen insubordination. No surprise, really. I will be shocked and terribly disappointed if Thibodeau is still with the Wolves organization when the season starts.

If Taylor moves on from Thibs before the season starts I will be very impressed by that. I hope it happens.
