I'm with you, Bloop...always cheer for the Lakers to fail. I'll never get over the bitterness of the Lakers moving to LA, and then keeping the name despite the absence of even one lake in LA. Yes, I like Kerr too, but my dislike for the Lakers is permanent. My perfect night tonight would be for the Wolves to get one of the top three spots, thereby costing LA their pick. That would be a home run!

LST I knew you were old, but you're old enough to have bitterness over something that happened in 1958?!? I thought I was one of the geezers around here!

Ha, I actually used to go to games as a kid at the old Minneapolis Armory on Sunday afternoons! After the games, they let kids go down on the court and throw popcorn boxes at the hoops (would have been better if they had supplied basketballs). Elgin Baylor had recently become my favorite player, and to have him leave with the team to LA is something I will never forgive.

On a similar topic, I ran into former Minneapolis Laker Chuck (now Charlie) Mencel at the Minnesota Prayer Breakfast this morning, and joked with him about his refusal to leave with the team when they moved to LA. I asked him if that was like Kevin Durant refusing to leave Seattle when they moved to OkC, and Charlie said no...KD makes almost as much in one minute as Charlie made in a season!

It goes beyond that. In their mad quest to top the Celtics lore, they latched on to titles won in another state under a different regime with almost entirely other players with no ties to the LA team.

Most respectable franchises don't bring those titles with them. You don't see the Twins honoring (did I just say "respectable"...oops) honoring Walter Johnson every other day, do you? Do you see the New York Yankees laying claim for any success in Baltimore before moving to NY?

It was cheap obvious grab at upping the title count.

[Note: This post is only slightly inspired by me being a lifelong Celtics fan.]

I agree that I really hope the Sixers get the Lakers pick (LA has been lucky 2 strait years already).

- For one, it helps a team in the Eastern Conference, which is weaker.
- And second, it hurts the Lakers who are in the already tougher West.
Plus it's the Lakers. They already have a lot of young talent and will sign some good FAs (like PG13 wanting to go to LA). So I really hope they don't get another Top 3 pick, because that will help them get back to being a great team even more, like they were when I grew up.

The longer the Lakers can be held down the better. I'll be pissed if Earvin gets lucky tonight. They actually have less than a 50% chance of staying in the top 3.

If the Knicks pick 7th, I will be ecstatic.

Personally, I don't care much either way, but I admire the fact that when all signs pointed to "tank" they really went out there and competed down the stretch. Plus I think Luke Walton is a generally good guy. Having some experience with this because of the Joe Smith fiasco, I wouldn't wish that on anybody, and I think it would be pretty hard on a franchise to lose two first rounders like that.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for luck, but no matter what happens, I just hope we end up with a good player out of the deal. I think there are some good players in this draft, and if Thibs trades it, we could get a good player too. And if we get really lucky with a high pick, it wouldn't be crazy to think we could potentially land a star via trade.

No. The Lakers blatantly tanked this season as it progressed. They were never in any serious jeopardy of falling outside the top 3.

Sure. They won 5 games in a row very late in the season. But the important thing to note is that they were already entrenched in the top 3... yet not quite able to out-tank Phoenix.

After a .500 start... they went 11 - 45 during the heart of the schedule while benching or trading vets... and by putting in Ron Artest to gun them out of games in 4th quarters.

Did they suck? Yes. Did they tank? Ehhh, sort of, they sat some vets, but I think it's more like they came back down to what their talent actually suggested. That team was never as good as their start suggested. And yes, in my book, that 5 straight wins in the last stretch definitely counts for something.

Besides. Look at our history of soft tanking. Hell, you could argue we've been soft tanking just about every year for about a decade! And then there's Mark Madsen. I don't think we can really point fingers on tanking. So yeah, I don't get the Laker hating.

Every Wolves fan should want the Lakers to lose their pick. Why? Because they're a Western Conference rival and the pick, if they lose it, would go to an Eastern Conference team. You don't have to dislike the Lakers to hope they lose their pick.
