Interestingly, doesn't Mike Malone have some similar traits to the Wolves coach... and one of the concerns was his act wearing thin on the players?

As for the games. Yes... a 139 - 136 game seems to be on the horizon.

Abe, where did you hear that "malone wears thin" thing? I thought he was considered a players coach in his limited time. I know he got on well with Cousins, which isn't an easy thing to do. Most thought he did a really good job in SAC, which I believe was his first gig as a head coach.

I heard it on a recent podcast. But I just checked on article about the Nuggets which claims that "Malone is well-liked by many of his players, as well as much of the media. He's accommodating and well-respected. But success is the bottom line, and the Nuggets are stuck spinning their wheels under Malone."

So maybe I should find the link to the podcast/context or shut the F up?

Time to fire Thibs.

I feel fairly confident the Wolves will win one of those games. Why? Denver can't guard anyone either.

Time to fire Mike Malone?

With the way the Wolves have been trending I wouldn't bet on it. Odd's are, yeah you should win the home game, but we saw what happened last night. It just looks like a complete disaster waiting to happen.

Oh yes the mighty Nuggets who have the same record as the Wolves in the past 10 games including losses to the Grizzlies and Lakers.

So will that make it worse or better when they blow it?

I don't know about better or worse, but I'll get a good laugh from it!

No doubt the Wolves should win their final game at home against Denver. Three reasons. First, the Wolves have been a very good home team. Second, Jimmy Butler will probably be back playing. Third, the Nuggets aren't very good.

Unfortunately, the final win over the Nuggets will lead to my nightmare scenario - an 8th place finish. It's my nightmare scenario because it will mean the only possible 1st-round matchup in which the Wolves won't be competitive and it will be just enough to keep Thibs around for another year as our head coach and PBO.

Yep.

I don't see any scenario where Taylor doesn't bring back the coach from the first playoff team in 14 seasons. Heck, a winning season might have been enough.

This is Minnesota after all. Thibodeau probably gets an extension...

The whole point of this year is to give the young players a year of playoff experience. Even if they get killed by the rockets they are going to know what it takes, that is valuable experience. Getting into the 2nd round was going to be gravy in any scenario with our roster. It's still the very early stages of building this team, Thibs first season was about evaluation, he then got rid of the chaff. This season was about improving the core, he did that by selling our garbage for an all-star and signing a savvy vet for the front line. Now next season has to be about the complimentary pieces, if he doesn't do that sure have his head, but complaining about obvious improvement seems counterintuitive.

I remember the first year the Wolves made the playoffs. Ironically, it was vs. the Houston Rockets.

The Wolves were swept and only the final game was even within single digits. But I don't remember that part. It was arguably the most OPTIMISTIC few days in Minnesota Timberwolves history. Yes... ever.

All anybody could think about was the future of the team with Garnett + Marbury being the next (better?) Stockton/Malone... with Googs, too!

The Rockets, led by Barkley, had nothing but praise after that series for the young Wolves. At the time, we all thought it was just a matter of time. And the next year seemed to offer proof... the Wolves nearly upset the #2 seeded Sonics despite one of Garnett's career-WORST games.

Then. Everything fell apart and the Wolves made it out of Round 1 only one time. Ever.

woe.
