Durant and Westbrook backed Brooks until the end. Players shouldn't decide coaches. Just look at Lebron. The few times he's won titles in his career were under a coach he didn't pick. Now he's back to picking coaches in Cleveland again and they aren't going to win a title again. Good GM's pick the guys they want and don't let star players dictate the hire. They can have input on the hire, but don't let them be the deciding factor on picking someone.

Wiggins, Towns and the rest will likely back whoever replaces Mitchell as well. Non issue

Good stuff. I'm down for having Thibs in Flips dual role.

I don't see the difference of Brooks and Mitchell personally. I think the same criticisms of Mitchell apply to Brooks. I like the defensive guru approach. I rank Van Gundy ahead of Thibs only because he doesn't have the hard ass vibe I get from Thibs and I think Van Gundy would be able to reach Wiggins along with creating a system for our D. Would like Thibs too, but I love Van Gundy for this team.

I hope that list would become larger. I'd like to see names like Boylen, Ollie, Jensen, Smart get consideration also.

Even though I like him... the one thing about Van Gundy...
He hasn't coached since 2007. The NBA is a bit of a different animal. I know he calls games... but he's not putting in the same diligent work. I heard him on the Zach Lowe podcast and it seemed to be pretty clear Van Gundy isn't do deep-digging research. He flies in to do the games and does his research for those teams.
That's not to say those are reasons to omit him from the process. Only that it MIGHT take time to adjust to today's game.
[Note: And while I agree that Brooks seemed to have a ceiling... he can point to the fact that he was able to balance superstar egos pretty well... even if part of that was creating an insulated culture around them where local criticism was almost unheard of.]
