But if there is an injury settlement, aren't we on the hook for the entire salary? If so, I'm not sure what good that does us other than salary cap relief we don't need yet. I'm talking about a buyout to keep Pek's salary on the books at hopefully a reduced rate and free up a roster spot.

There is the stretch provision where you are basically allowed to cut a guy and add a year to his contract payments to reduce the cap hit. So if he's scheduled to make 12 million for 2 more years after this one you can reduce the hit down to 8 million over 3 years, but the contract is on the books for 3 years instead of 2 years.

I am hoping he could retire and insurance pays the contract and we get cap relief. I am sure there is a deadline we are trying to work within. I really wish he could be full strength, but am fine moving on without him.

So does everybody feel the same about Loadholt? He's the same age and about 80 pounds heavier.

I would cut them both . Pek gets paid and Loadholdt can find a new team.

If he retires he's off the cap and stops getting paid. End of story. You don't get to retire and still get paid out your contract. That's why he's not gonna retire. He'll limp his way through the end of his deal.

Unless his doctor says he has to retire due to injury. Then inusrance would pay for it unless we didn't insure the contract.

Whether they insured the contract or not doesn't have any bearing on it coming of the cap. I checked and it was 10 games, so we can't apply until one year after his last game is my understanding. That basically means we could wipe his salary for the 2017 off season.

Jason, what is he rehabbing? The surgery was to shave a bone that they thought might be rubbing on the achilles. If that hasn't settled down by now, I don't think it was the problem. What I am confused about, is that they said he was working out pain free, and how excited Pek was about that. WHen did the pain come back?
