Personal Top 10 most HATED Wolves...
Re: Personal Top 10 most HATED Wolves...
Short version: 1-10 Andrew "Small Shot" Wiggins.
Re: Personal Top 10 most HATED Wolves...
Sooo many, mostly failed draft picks. Although i guess i should just hate the GM's for that.
Wesley Johnson
Jonny Flynn
Mike Miller (all of the suddent he couldn't make 3s?)
Martell Webster (see above) Jim Petersen's commentary says it all. Now watching it again it makes me actually laugh out loud but man that play at the time had me raging.
Derrick Williams
Beasley
Ndudi Ebi
McCants (i actually had high hopes for this dude and all i feel is shame now).
Brandon Roy (we draft him, he goes and becomes awesome, comes back a beaten man oh what could've been).
Randy Foye
Wesley Johnson
Jonny Flynn

I've. Been waiting for this, Abe! Finally! Thanks! Here's my top 10 (or bottom 10) list in order of disdain:
1. Darko. I've never seen anyone get so little out of so much. What a waste of talent. Manna from Heaven? More like a half loaf of moldy bread from Hell.
2. Kandiman: I can't believe this guy hasn't appeared on anyone's list yet. He right up there with Darko in getting less from more. He is best known as the Wolves player who was always the first to get to the club after a game.
3. Wes Johnson. No surprise here. He came to games just to hang out with the guys and have a few laughs. He's right there with Darko and Kandiman in the "I don't care" department. But at least Darko just moped on the bench. Wes, of course, was all smiles. So maybe I should put Wes in the #1 slot on this list.
4. McCants - A twisted loser who had a world of talent.
5. JR Rider - Another pathetic soul who had incredible talent but failed to use it - although he did give us one great thrill with his east bay funk dunk in the slam dunk competition.
6. Derrick Williams -- Another guy with tremendous talent who had a passion for the NBA lifestyle but not the NBA game.
7. Mike Miller -- Brought here to shoot, but decided he wanted to be a playmaker and ballhandler. Go figure!
8. Beasley -- I can't hate the guy, but he's on my list because of the knucklehead factor and the extent to which he squandered his incredible gifts. He had Kevin Durant type talent, but rocks for brains.
9. Paul Grant -- Why was he even on the team? I guess that question should be directed to Kevin McHale.
10. Laettner -- Not a terrible player. And he worked hard. But he had to make my list because I've always hated him.

Dig the list, Lip. Olowakandi was a good add. I regret omitting him from mine. And I was on the cusp of adding Mike Miller. It wasn't like the guy stop making shots when he became a Wolves player (38% on 3s isn't terrible)... it's that he refused to take them. He came to a team desperate for outside shooting and he shot less than he did previously. He passed up so many wide open looks that season only to try to create something else. Usually, that ended up with a pass out to Telfair or Foye 30 feet from the hoop with about 3 seconds left on the shot clock.
I HATED THAT GUY!

3. Joe Smith
4. Wes Johnson
5. Flynn
6. Ricky Davis
7. Sprewell
8. D Williams
9. Anthony Bennett
10. Foye
Special mention:
K Love (at one time he would have made this list, but he got us Wiggins)
Starbury (loved then hated him)
Mike James (hyped up and worthless)
William Avery (super dud with Artest, AK47 and Posey on the board and makes me doubt whether we are cursed drafting Duke point guards (sorry Tyus))
Bazz (don't really hate anyone on this roster, but not a fan of his me first game)

Re: Personal Top 10 most HATED Wolves...
This is my whole list: Wally. Couldn't create his own shot, and couldn't get along with KG, but he was the only one who was the obvious choice at the position they drafted him.
My problem with this thread is that every one of these other guys I see as a front office failure. There was no clamor for Paul Grant, Rider, McCants, etc. It was just the F/O effing up.

Huh? I guess I'm not following you. Paul Grant was never really on the court, so I can see why somebody would wonder how he was hated.
But Rider or McCants or Darko or Ricky Davis or Mark Blount? Each of them certainly did things on the court that people can point to quite specifically when sharing why they hated them as players.
It's like if we went back to the Favorite Wolves player list. Does the FO get the credit for each of them too?

Re: Personal Top 10 most HATED Wolves...
OK, I'll try again. So the Wolves drafted Paul Grant. When it happened, I said "Who?", now keep in mind, he played for a Big Ten school, and Minnesota has a Big Ten School, so I should have known him, yet I didn't. That's a bad sign. Now maybe I could have done better to know who Paul Grant. But maybe the guys making a ton of money could have done a better job with that pick. I'll let history be the tiebreaker on this one.
To address your second issue: ABSOLUTELY! Kevin Love was drafted FIFTH! That means four idiot GM's (Pat Reilly being in that group) who thought four other players would have better careers. Maybe Westbrook will, and maybe Rose would have if he stayed healthy, but Beasley and Mayo? You didn't see that coming ON DRAFT DAY!?!?! Well, I did.
Was I as sure with KG? Of course not. But these guys make long dough, and I think they need to be right a lot more than what they are.
And at the risk of speaking ill of the deceased: How high of a pick could MIN give up for Payne? And did he or did he not get a DNP/CD last night? And do I come off as a total braggart for saying I could totally see this day coming?
Just pull up nbadraftdotnet, go through the history as far back as you can, and ask yourself, really, no one saw that coming?

I'm sorry for not following you.
I still don't see why we can't dislike certain players for the way they played on the court. Are you saying the way they played is excusable because the GM should have known better?

Re: Personal Top 10 most HATED Wolves...
I am going to keep this strictly to production, because style is in the eye of the beholder.
Yes, the front office should know better. I go back to Wally. He was drafted in that spot because he had the size and spot-up shot to play immediately, and did. He needed to improve defensively and off-the-dribble, and maybe even in the post. Never happened.
Other than that, it was fairly easy to predict what would happen.
One of the reasons I don't contribute much to "draft threads" is that nowadays I see so few of these guys I really can't form an educated opinion. But back when I would watch lots of college and/or amateur ball, I could tell who was going to get it done and who wasn't with great regularity. And equally important, I could figure out who would continue to be an off-the-court screwup as a pro and who would turn it around.
You may not completely agree with my position, but what is the alternative? Team X reaches for Player Y, so now that guy has to outperform his capabilities. I am sure a lot of current/former Wolves employees appreciate the effort, but it's not really how it works.
