Ok some more hypotheticals...

What draft class starting 5 are you taking? Feel free to add additional drafts if you want:
1984
C- Olajuwon
PF- Barkley
SF- Kersey
SG- Jordan
PG- Stockton

1996
C- J. O'Neal
PF- Camby
SF- Stojakovic
SG- Bryant
PG- Iverson
Note- I picked Iverson over Nash and Bryant over Allen

2003
C- Bosh
PF- Anthony
SF- James
SG- Wade
PG- Hinrich

1984 all day. Olajuwon, Barkley, Jordan and Stockton? You could have me play SF and we'd still win.

In second place, 2003 wins. LeBron, Carmelo, Wade and Bosh are four Hall of Famers in their own right, but they just can't touch the group from '84.

I agree with 1984. I'm not old enough to appreciate the Russell's, Chamberlin's or the Kareem's, so to me Olajuwon is the best big ever. Jordan is the best player ever. Stockton is way underrated and Barkley was outstanding as well. Kersey was a great starter for a very good Blazer team.

I think I go the 1996 team next. Kobe, AI were so dynamic. That backcourt would be very tough to guard. Peja had such a pretty shot. That class would have the best rotation by far. That class had huge names and it had depth.

The 2003 class is very good, but defensively the front court would suck.

D-Wade > AI
LeBron > Kobe
Carmelo > Peja
Bosh > O'Neal
Hinrich < Camby

That's not necessarily the best way to break down teams and I realize that, but outside of Kobe and AI, nobody on that '96 team can create. And it's not like those two are the most efficient scorers either with both needing the ball to be dominant. Would also be rough considering Wade would put the clamps on Iverson and LeBron would make life tough for Kobe. Then I ask: Who the hell's gonna guard Melo? Mismatch for days.

I think you are under rating AI. There is nobody that can match his quickness. I would pick AI over Wade. Personally I like Kobe over LeBron. I know I'm in the minority. I'm not a Carmelo fan at all. He can score, but he is a ball stopper. I feel talent wise he could be step for step with LeBron, but he is lazy.

Question, would you pick Nash over AI?

I was looking at more recent drafts and fell down a weird rabiit hole if you are really bored...

Name your best starting 5 of a draft year with undrafted FAs

This one is pretty decent. There are other years that I went through with some nice players but alot of years seem to come up one player short at one position or a bunch of guards etc. These guys would have been a team that wouldn't be backing down from anyone. Darvin Ham was fun to watch especially when he was dunking the ball like the manchild that he was.

PG Chucky Atkins
SG Erick Strickland
SF Adrian Griffin
PF Darvin Ham
C Ben Wallace

Since we have the first pick in the draft I'm going to throw out some past names and see which of the two you would pick. Since we need a big man the most I will start there.

1) Olajuwon or Shaq

2) David Robinson or Patrick Ewing

3) Mourning or Howard

4) Duncan or Garnett

5) Barkley or Malone

1) Shaq, most dominant center ever not named Wilt.
2) The Admiral (wonder if I still have his poster?)
3) Howard (in his prime, was more dominant)
4) Duncan (great matchup between two all-time greats, but with the Spurs success and Duncan's game having aged so well, it's tough to pick even KG over Duncan...although it'd be interesting to see them if you flipped their teams)
5) Barkley (I'm probably bias since I put him in my "top 3" of people I'd like to spend a day with when I was talking to a buddy today...along with Hugh Hefner and Will Ferrell), but hard not to respect how he played.

I have my "would I want to have a beer with that guy" test. Barkley definitely makes the cut. In fact, he'd be near the top. Karl Malone would not. Here's what I see playing out...

After a few minutes of chit chat...

Malone: "If you're only going to ask me questions about John Stockton, I'm leaving."
Me: "Oh. Sorry. Ummm... errrr... ummm... so this black cowboy thing. What's with that?"
Malone: "Grrrrr..."
Me: "And, the 12 year old you knocked up? You really don't see anything wrong with that? Or, with being a deadbeat dad to the bastard son you left behind after raping that poor girl? What's wrong with you?"

Then, I would probably be murdered with one punch from Karl Malone.

1) Olajuwon or Shaq or TheSP

2) David Robinson or Patrick Ewing or TheSP

3) Mourning or Howard or TheSP

4) Duncan or Garnett or TheSP

5) Barkley or Malone or TheSP

Now your choices are a lot more difficult!

1) The Dream, especially since the Dream owned him head to head at the beginning of Shaq's career.

2) Ewing - Am really surprised I am the only one to go Ewing. Robinson was such an amazing character guy but Ewing was the superior baller in my mind.

3) Can I go Mutumbo? Mourning and Howard are a toss up to me. They are similar players. In a pinch I guess I say Howard because he was maybe a bit more athletic.

4) Love Kg, but it has to be Duncan all the way.

5) Barkley - Charles was one of the most unique talents that I ever saw play. We were truly spoiled with the talent of the 80s to 90s with the transition from Bird/Magic to Michael. That was when my passion for the NBA started and hasn't waned since.
