The big if is health but IF the heat starting 5 is healthy next year that pick will be in the 20's. Deng is borderline but they are above average at every position.

The trade definitely didn't pan out how Flip hoped but let's not try to make worse than it is.

Don't forget they get McBob back as their first big off the bench with Chalmers as a solid depth guy in the backcourt. Napier could still get better. They add a top 10 pick or trade it for a veteran. They have more than just their starting 5. Their starting 5 is what would make them a top 3 seed in the East in my opinion if Bosh can come back.

Miami will make the playoffs next year. The pick they traded away will never be a lotto pick. Bosh got hurt and that was their downfall. A healthy bosh + dragic is a very good 1-2 punch. You still have wade and an emerging whiteside and deng. Add a top 10 pick this coming draft and miami has always been a favorable options for free agents then you have a playoff team.

Bosh and wade are in the latter part of their careers and dragic in his prime. The heat are not going to blow it up anytime. They have a good core in placed, they will look to add pieces and you always have a chance in the east.

Am I the only one who looks at the Miami pick trade as having given it up for Bennett? I guess you could say we gave up the Miami pick for either Young or Bennett since Flip had the choice of sending Philly Bennett or Miami pick for Young. In other words we could have kept the Miami pick and still gotten Thad. Bennett!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't win them all. Bennett was a 2nd year rookie who was the #1 overall pick, deserving or not. He rarely played his first year, so Flip took the chance that he can reach the potential he definitely has. I still think it's much too early to write Bennett off.

Everyone talks about this Miami pick, which we would not have received this year, like it is guaranteed to bring in some great player. It has a better chance on being used on a bust.

For trade purposes, it could be nice, but if we really covet a player another team is looking to unload, then i'm sure we could find a way to get said player through our current players and future picks. Keep in mind everyone in the league knows Minnesota has been terrible forever, and I don't think anyone would bet just yet on any of our future picks being in the 20's. I guess that is one nice thing for us, all of our future picks hold value.

Not going to lie, I have essentially written off Bennett as a bust. It was unfortunate he was taken #1 overall as I never thought he should have been taken that early. I felt he was more like the 7th or 8th best prospect in his draft, but he has the salary of a #1 guy and all the pressure of a #1 guy. I've seen enough of him, I don't think he'll ever earn his salary and we are better off giving his minutes to someone else we could develop. If he has any trade value, I would pull the trigger quickly.

Do we know that it could have been Bennett or the pick? Hinkie is collecting picks, not players. Did anyone ever confirm that Bennett was an acceptable piece for them or was that just made up by people on the board? I don't think Hinkie wanted to take on 13 million in contracts and only send out Thad's 9.

Tim I don't think that's true. Love's salary was within 125% of the combined salaries of Wiggins and Bennett. The only basis for the Thad side deal was Flip's assumption that theWoves could compete for a playoff slot without Love and his belief that Thad would be a key piece to mKe that happen. There really isn't any good justification for dealing what will turn out to be an unprotected first round pick in order to add Thad Young to our roster as starting PF on a rebuilding team.

Once we traded Love we became a rebuilding team. It made sense to take a shot with Bennett as part of the Love deal. It did not sense to give up a first round pick for Thad Young. I would have preferred Waiters or Thompson to Bennett, but the Bennett part of the deal wasn't a bad move at the time.
