LOL - I can't do it Bleed. I really just need to see this kid play against NBA guys. I've read the scouting reports/weaknesses too. But he was consistently ranked as a mid to late 1st round guy at only 19 years old - so the kid has talent. Everyone is entitled to make their opinions known on this board. I'm just surprised that guys are not more excited about another 1st round pick added to our stable.

For me I just get that Will Avery feeling about him.

If AJ Price still hangs around the league with his bad knees (that were a concern coming out of college) I would think Tyus could easily be better than that which is a low bar but some people are basically writing off Tyus which is their perogative. To me the first key for Tyus is whether or not he can hit jumpshots. If he can't it's over. If he can hit jumpshots which is a strength he has then he seems to be a heady guy that has other attributes that can be utilized. Other guys have come into the league and it seemed they were at the very least going to hit shots consistently and they couldn't do we will see. I am not expecting much from Tyus this year which is totally fine since we have Miller.

In case you are serious about the Will Avery thing I will comment on it. It will look like I am really trying to defend Tyus and that's probably partly the case but Will Avery sticks in mind as a cautionary tale of PGs coming out early so let's looks back...

I wasn't a fan of Avery I thought he should have stayed in school another year because he didn't look like he knew how to run the PG position. At the spot the Wolves got him it was tough to argue though with the selection I remember a lot of people (fans experts etc) really liked that pick for us. He was a legit athlete but looking back at his scouting report he was basically a SG (shooting was a strength) that was a PG size. It should come as no surprise he would light up worse competition like the SL when he got invites later in his career. I think it's pretty easy to say that Avery couldn't play the PG position at the NBA level. Flip developed or coaxed or whatever you want to call it nice production out of a bunch of guys while he was with the wolves. Last year should show how PG friendly the system is even if it does ask a lot. Avery couldn't do that and he wasn't dynamic enough at anything else to stick around.

Contrast that with Tyus who is absolutely a natural PG and has been touted as so for years. In addition his freshman year stats except overall FG% (which is a legit concern) are either as good or better than Avery's sophomore season with the exception of 3 point % but Tyus still shot well there.

2 more things on Tyus

How much does he improve? Some guys just don't seem to get much better. Some do. To a certain extent this is predictable but a lot of the time you can't say. Tyus is young so that's the hope. He had a solid resume as a freshman in college so it's not like he is some total clueless potential guy either.

Physical limitations are a legit factor but skill matters even more. Every sport has a lot of guys that successed despite not being particularly gifted athletically or in the traditional ways. Nash has already been used as an example. Skill and being able to play matters. How much skill and feel for the game does he really have?

A lot of the guys that are talked about in sports that are said to not be athletic have some elite athletic trait that gets overlooked I think nash in what he can do is so fluid and coordinated even for a pro athlete. You can see that with his ability to do nifty things with a soccerball or riding a skateboard. Some guys just have a level of coordination and balance that's remarkable. Kevin Love has lower body strength and upper body strength that's uncommon as well. I am not sure if Tyus has any extra ordinary trait like that but I am not exactly planning on the guy becoming a HOFer either. Lol I think everyone is interested to see how his career turns out. Some are more hopeful than others. The people that are down on his chances make a good case.

I was comparing them as young Duke PG's taken after 10th pick. I wonder if he would have been picked as high if lets say he would have decided to play for the Gophers. I am not sure he could have gotten that team in the tourney or been in position to be drafted.
